Doesn't pricing have to be announced prior to orders being placed?

No. Pricing is usually announced after the first few weeks of production. There have been a few exceptions over the most recent hundred years, but very few.

I asked the question because I saw that last year, Becky posted the 2017 pricing before 2017 production started. Posted April 19, 2016, in the Sticky thread above this. So last year was one of the few exceptions?

Yep. Pricing for the 2010 was also released several months before the start of regular production.

And it may be Chevy is changing in this regard: I am sure a few weeks should have little or no effect on pricing decisions.

GM is replacing my 2SS, They couldn't find one I wanted locally so they're going to place an order on Wednesday... The managers at the dealership told me that it will be a 2018.

From what the manager at the dealership told me, They are allocated 8 2018's for now and only 3 V8's... So I'm taking one of their allocations.

Based upon the 2017s being marketed as a 50th Anniversary car I'm wondering if GM is still hanging onto the '18 pricing in order to clear a little more of the '17 inventory and gather data on pricing points.
