I'm all about performance but on a DD street car I like my features and nice interior. The new V6 looks like a sweet motor. 335hp isn't anything to sneeze at either. I'd get the 2LT for all the nice stuff and get a turbo or supercharger down the road to enjoy LT1 type power. Also enjoy cheaper insurance.

I went with a loaded 2LT. All the options (see my signature below) except the NPP dual mode exhaust. Which, to this day I'm still kicking myself for not getting. Sticker price with all the options was $39,600. I did not all want a bare bones 1SS. I would have loved to get the 2SS. But for me, cost was an issue there. A 2SS with most of the options probably around $46,000. $39,000 was my absolute limit that I was going to go. I figure get the 2LT with all the goodies and be happy. I got an awesome car. My advice to you, DO NOT live beyond your means. If you can afford the 2SS than get it. Only you know your limits and financial responsibilities.

Just go to the dealer and hit the start button on a 1SS.
You'll want to take it home!

I have the 2LT. I wanted the loaded car. As much as I like the LT1 motor I went with the V6 because I drive the car in Houston traffic every weekday. I get about 26 MPG commuting, I would get about 16 commuting with the LT1. I also didn't want to have to buy premium gas all the time either. I do for my motorcycle but I don't ride it every day and the mileage is far better. When I retire I may reconsider the 2SS as I will no longer have to sit in traffic every weekday.

This is exactly my situation too. ive owned 2 Chevy V-8's, a 13 SS and a Corvette C7. I love the V-8 motor but just don't need it when the v6 does so well with 335 hp. My friend has a Porsche Panamera with a V6 and it only makes 310 hp. The lack of noise, vibration and harshness of the V-6 makes it perfect for me for daily around town use.

And I love using regular gas now, haven't bought it in 20 years....LOL

I doubt you'll see much of an insurance difference..

I'd go with the v8 every time. I can give up leather, heated seats, etc.

I have no idea how much a turbo kit costs for the v6 or how the engine holds up.

You've got to get a SS. The only way to go.

I work in the city and my commute is a pain in the arse! In the mornings I'm in the car for 45 minutes stuck in traffic. Without traffic about 22 minutes. So, I'm in the same boat. So far, I'm averaging 25 mpg. Which isn't too bad. As much as I want the 2SS, just didn't make sense. I would be burning fuel as well as in my wallet. LOL....So, I went with the 2LT V6. 335 hp is enough for me, for now anyway. BUT, I do want a 2SS at some point in my life, just to experience the performance of all the hp and torque of the V8. I do get asked that question, though, Is that a V6 or V8?
I love telling them the performance numbers FIRST, 335 hp and 0-60 in 5.1 seconds. Than I tell them its only a V6. People I talk to are amazed!!
Heck, the 6th gen V6 is almost as fast the 5th gen V8.

I bought a 1LT for one reason and one reason only. It was what I could afford. If I could afford $39,000 for a car I would go with a bare bones SS. The only options on my 1LT are the V6 and the rally stripes and spoiler. Yet this car seems like it is loaded.

I am very happy with it. It isn't crazy fast like an SS but it does have more power than I can use most of the time. It pulls me back in my seat nicely. Eventually I do plan to take it to a test n tune at Heartland Park.

I just love how it sounds. Not like a V8 of course. But it sounds like an expensive European sports car. I can't wait to take this thing on a trip to Colorado.

LMAO! Right? 1SS with NPP, split rims, add some nice floor mats and you're golden!!!

But the V6 will be good for DD... My 1SS is too much for the streets lol

SS. if you don't, you may end up like I did when I had my 2014 2LT... that little voice kept telling me "shoulda had a V8".

That's not to take away anything from the new v6, its amazing in its own way... but its not the V8. if you are on the fence, go with the V8 or end up with some degree of regret. don't settle.

And if you do, look at the 1SS as a great platform for mods, and build up on it to your heart's content. or, save up a bit more for the 2SS if the gadgets you will lack with the 1SS will again leave you feeling regret.

just be sure you don't feel like you are settling.

I think the bottom line is- everyone is different and has different preferences and needs for their cars. You should really drive both the SS and the LT and see which one you'd be happier with. I chose the 1LT back in 2012 because I didn't have a need for the 400+ hp of the SS- the V6 at the time had 323 which is still amazing. Plus, regular gas and mileage were big concerns. I know nobody buys a Camaro for gas mileage, but it is still definitely a concern. Mine is my only car and my daily driver so regular gas was a huge plus. Whenever I get my 6th gen, it will be a 2LT because I am more than happy with the V6 engine and that would still be a step up for me.

If you are looking for a daily driver, the LT fine if you don't have kids...there are better options out there of course (unless you must have a Camaro).

I bought a 1SS with auto8,NPP, MRC...I have been driving it daily for the past 4 months and I have mixed reviews. I get 25 mpg with 80/20 mixed driving which is not bad for this beast. I have no problem with visibility as i adjust to the car I am in and not sit there complaining that this car doesnt have the visibility of an AMC Pacer. Car rides a bit rough and road noise is pronounced. seats only tilt back so far, not enough in my book. Back seats are better described as shelves. Trunk is actually roomy enough...but the opening is so damn small that I cant squeeze most ( any that i have tried) mid size coolers in it.

I love the car as it does exactly what it was designed to do...and does it great. But as a daily driver its simply not the best choice in any package. There are many spirited offerings out there for the same money or less that will fill the role of daily driver better than this powerful sports coupe.
