68 RS/SS 396 price?
Hello,
I ran across a 68 RS/SS 396 4 speed today. Car has been sitting outside for a long time. It is complete and does run and drive. I didn't have a chance to check it out completely today, but just trying to get an idea on value. The car needs floor pans, trunk pan, and probably frame rails. Body looks good, but does need some work. There is a small dent beside the rear bumper on the passenger side, then some bondo flaking off the driver's quarter. Original Muncie Trans and 12 bolt rear. Engine is a 69 396. I don't have casting numbers yet. It does have a tach and console gauges. Interior is in great shape, and has high back bucket seats. They are wanting 8k firm for the car. Is this a decent price on the car since it needs so much? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Travis |

Thats not too bad of a price, I wish it had the orig 396 though. You will probably have 30-40K in the car by the time you're done.

Would love to see it...What does the tach redline go to? This will determine what HP the car came with originally. How long it been sitting? I assume the reverse lights are in the lower rear valance? Does it have the all the interior with it? Did you look up the trim tag to verify colors? 8k is a good price but without seeing it hard to determine. Hard to come by with some original stuff left on it! The poor thing is just beggin to be saved! LOL Good luck to you!

I went and looked at it better today. The car is really rough. It would definitely need floors, trunk, frame rails, both quarters, fenders, trunk lid, spoiler, and work on the doors, not to mention someone drilled through the hood to install hood pins. The engine bay is also a mess, and has wooden spacers behind the radiator to make it fit...I took some pictures, and will try to post them over the weekend.

it will cost more to finish than it will sell for. Rusted cars will almost always be the worst from a strictly dollars standpoint.
That said, if you like spending a ton of money and doing a ton of work as a hobby, buy it. The price is not far off of what it would sell for as a project. If you do not rebuild it you still could always part it out. Rust SUCKS! |

Rust is your most expensive repair. Sounds like every body panel needs replaced. The only good thing about that is replacement panels are readily available.

It seems as if at some point, someone thought rust repair was to out bondo over it and call it a day. There is bondo in both quarters, and fenders. I feel bad for the car. I would like to fix it just since it does have nice features, but the cost and amount of work would be insane. Here is the cowl tag and vin. If someone could decide it that would be great.

Make a real low offer...It can be done and these are tough to come by but are you willing to dump some dough into her? Some pics of mine. A lot of work but someday it will get done.

Right now the guy is set on 8k. I don't think it's worth that. I still have some stuff to do to the 68 Camaro I already have. Your car is looking good. Maybe he will eventually come off the price. He has $8300 in it, and bought it sight unseen. I guess the description he got wasn't close to what the car actually was.
