People will want it dirt cheap when you want to sell. Not worth the headaches.

Depends on what they want for the car then figure 5-6k for a motor and 2-3k for a tranny so you'll have any where from 7-9k in this car and if more than 10k you'll have to get 21K to come out even remotely ahead. Now if its really cheap might be ok if moderately cheap buy it an part it out

I did not buy it I had the high bid @ 6500 they wanted 8000. They sold it the next week for 8500. The car was brand new when it was stolen of off the dealer lot & found in the same town shortly after - the motor & trans. looked really nice. After seeing last week about someone getting their warranty denied for having a catch can make me think if you were planning on modding a car at all this still might be a good option esp after reading about all the mods made on cars on this site but when something goes wrong its back to the dealer for your punishment . I guess I enjoy working on cars & I don't car about the warranty if it is bought at a fair price.

Here in wi iv owned and sold cars with salvage title and rebuildable titles. It was never hard to sell it . If you rebuild it yourself u normally have like a state Trooper go over it very simple and quick prosscess. And if been told twice that and I'm sure will be different by who you go thru but I was told salveage cars you deduct 25 percent from kbb. Main problem would be the person buying a salvage car would have to get a loan. And a lot of places won't finance it because of that .

And Ive heard from a shop owner who used to flip cars in a similar way, it can now be difficult/expensive to get insurance, some companies flat out refuse to insure it.

I would have bought that car in a hot second.. Who cares about a salvage title of the car is nice and a good deal. I have a clean 87 GN that was a salvage recovered theft. Is it any less a GN? No.. Does it perform like s GN? Yes... Did I get a rust free super clean GN for $6000? Yes.. Does Americsn collectors insure it for $20 grand replacement? Yes.. I wish I could come across a deal like that.

Wow after 20 post someone with the same thinking as me. I'm kicking myself in the butt for not buying it. I have talked to a few more that would have jumped on it as well. I'm beginning to think that alot of people are afaid of the salvage title but are willing to pay 40 + thousand on a new car of the dealer lot and take the instant depreciation in stride. Then finding out they can't do anything to the car without risking voiding the warranty. But its whatever they want to do. Congrats on the GN Buick that was a sleeper for sure. I have a 87 monte SS that was totaled in 87 with 8000 miles its got under 10000 miles on it also a very clean car that people appreciate. Also no problems getting insurance on it. Maybe because its considered a classic low mileage per year car.

Your original intention based on your post was a quick flip. Now you are comparing the situation based on keeping the car. Make up your mind.

Regarding resale of a salvage title. On thing comes to mind is that often times the public immediately think in the terms of a crash where the car wa totaled and they don't know what was or was not fixed.

In this case it is far better to document the history and thus it removes some of the worry. For me personally a stolen car that got stripped is far different than one that was crashed. If the person (you) had pictures and documented along the way it would be much easier to sell it much like a restoration.

I would have bought it in a heartbeat..... but probably not for $8,000.

These cars need inspected by someone knowing what to look for. There was possibly a lot more to it than replacing the engine and transmission.

Depending on who stole it, glass was broken and the ignition switch was trashed. Body panels dented, wiring and hoses cut, etc.....
