Thank you, Camaro Team.

It’s been a rough few weeks for me and my 2SS. First I got hit by actual falling rocks driving to work on Super Bowl Sunday, and now this.

The car hydroplaned in the rain one one of our lovely local freeways with inadequate drainage and because of the curve in the roadway, started to spin. From that point on, I was a passenger, and had the presence of mind to get my hands free of anything that was going to explode, shatter, or move. Shortly thereafter I impacted the concrete center median at about 70 mph and a couple of rotations later another came impact on the rear end and the car rolled to a stop.

I walked away with a very mild seat belt rash, minor bruise on one knee, and a cut so minor on my hand that it’s hardly worth mentioning. OnStar activated and called the authorities and a AAA tow truck for me.

I’d like to extend my most sincere gratitude and appreciation to Al Oppenheiser and the entire Camaro team for building a hell of a car that is as safe as it is beautiful. Because of what you’ve built, I’m here at work in one piece to tell the tale.

You’ve earned my repeat business in the toughest possible way, as I am already making plans to buy another 6th-gen.

Gary

Great display of gratitude in the wake of seriously unfortunate events. Glad you weren't hurt. See you on the road again soon in the car we all love.

Wow, that was a heavy impact. All airbags deployed. Glad you are not hurt.

Thank you.

The knee airbag in particular I was not aware was even part of the car, but its the one that probably saved me the most injury. I took a very minor bump/bruise on my right knee. While I felt like I was fairly in the moment when it happened, I didn't notice the knee airbag until I took these photos the next day.

These cars are crazy safe. I was in a bad accident, but from inside the cabin, I barely felt the impact of it and walked away untouched.

Most important,
So glad your safe!
And now, you’ll get a 6th Gen!
Things can be replaced, people can’t
And I agree 100%, Chevy has built one amazing car

I think you should also be thanking the physics gods for a little thing called impulse...

Impulse = force x time

...in your case, it sounds like your car didn't come crashing to a stop in 0.1 seconds but over a much larger time interval resulting a low peak force exerted on you. Great thing you were wearing a seatbelt because its purpose is also the lengthen the time interval to reduce peak force. Glad you walked away from this one.

Glad you are safe and well.

Please take a moment and contemplate doing 70+ mph in rains heavy enough to cause flooding. Someone was watching out for you my friend. Not hating, and I am only asking you to pause and reflect.

Good news You did just fine. Thankfully no injury!

Cars these past 20 yrs or so have gotten so safe...especially cars from the last several years. Accidents that 20 or 25 yrs ago would have resulted in serious injuries...or worse....Today are barely newsworthy. We have come a LONG ways with safety.
