Bro, no reason to go broke with an LS3/L99. Get yourself an L92/L96 6.0 or 6.2 truck block and build that bad boy out on the cheap (relatively). If displacement isn't a huge concern then you can go with a 5.3 for even less.
You will absolutely pay a premium with an actual LS3/L99. You can build pretty much the identical engine using truck versions for much less $$$.

Yeah, used LS engines are insanely expensive, even as a short block. Probably a good chunk of the reason stuff like first gen CTS-Vs sell for 3x the KBB value; a good running LS6 and T56 trans alone sell for quite a bit more than book value on the whole car in good condition.

If you contact the scrap yard they should tell you if an engine is good, and the better yards will also take it back if it is not.

If the price is right, I'd at least give it a shot. Might get lucky and it'd be a good engine. If that is a v-6, I'd just leave it there.

I'd take a chance and get the engine. The engine does sit pretty far back with the back cylinders basically under the windshield.
Block could be cracked, look for fluid leaking out the sides. Also the engine could have absorbed impact, been pushed back against the tranny and messed up the crankshaft. Their could be bottom end damage.

And I believe it’s a V6. Which isn’t worth the time or money to fix. The way the guy asked the question, I’m assuming it’s not his car and he was thinking of pulling the motor to make a couple bucks.
