Trading In.

Figured we should have a thread where we can say if we will be trading in a vehicle for the 2016. And maybe help anyone wondering about how much their trade is worth to a dealer.
Of course until some actually sit down and do their paperwork it will just be guesses.

2009 pontiac g8 gt. I want 14k, i will settle at 13500. Im really wanting to get the car off my hands.I have spent 500 on the suspension in the past two months. Do you guys think a dealer will take a trade in this early for a complimentary car?

Hoping for anything above $21,500. Wish I could get around $23,000 but that's a pipe dream.
Mine now is a 2014 2LT RS, with 10,500 miles.

It seems the 2014 is doing worse on depreciation than my 2010 1LT RS with 46,000 miles did. Traded it in for $16,500 last year.

I'm trading in my 2014 ls I own less than 12 thousand so I guess that's why I'm able to do it. my dealer said she could give me even more for my car and a
"rebate" or something like that. it has close to 16 thousand miles

I'm trading in my 2013 Subaru Impreza WRX with 23,500 miles on it. Dealer is trying to give me $22,500. I owe $22,700 on it and NADA says clean trade is $24,500 and retail is $26,800. So I'm going to have to deal with that.

Is there any reason people shouldn't be going for a private sale?

I always sell my cars privately but, I always have the pink slip. Does it cause a problem selling a car that you don't technically own?

Checking the blue book on my car it's worth $10k and the trade in value is $7k. I plan to sell my car privately as soon as my camaro is built and being shipped. That should give me a couple weeks to sell my car and if necessary I can rent a car for a week or two and still be ahead over the trade in value.

Out here in Chicago the 9.5% tax is a pretty big incentive to try and trade in...unfortunately the dealers know it too, but every time I've bought new, we eventually come to an agreement where it works out better for me to trade.

I'll be doing the same thing with my VW GTI. Could get 24k for it private, but the 22.5k from the dealer will work out better for me tax wise.

I sold my 2010 1LT/RS (17,000 miles) privately for $19K back in July/August...wanted to get as much out of it as I could while the summer was still in swing.

I have always sold my cars privately, but here in Missouri there is no real advantage to trade (past the ease of trade of course) and I have plenty of time to only pay the taxes on the difference between my sold car and the new car.

Ahh I get it. For some states there is a sales tax advantage for trade ins. Makes some sense...... In a way. I live in one of the few (is Oregon the last? Don't know) remaining sales tax free states. The reason I bought locally.

Edit:
Delaware
New Hampshire
Montana
Alaska
Oregon

My dealer is offering me $20,000 for my 2010 Infiniti EX35 SUV that has about 18k miles on it. Bluebook is about $20,500 to $23,000. I agreed with the dealers' offer.
