ZL1 Supercharger removal and replacement.

Tied of hearing the isolator rattle so I started the process of removing the SC today. Wasn't bad except the 4 bolts in the back. I drilled thru the cowl to access them.

Pics of removal follow.

First removed the strut tower brace and the windshield wipers. Bolts for the wipers easily accessed after snapping off the cover.

Pulled the hood seal off and removed all the clips for the plastic cowl cover. It comes off in two pieces. And it is very tight to pull out of the groove at the base of the windshield. Carefully pull it out without breaking it.

Wonder if there is a difference between the 2SS and the ZL1. I did not have to drill to get to the back 4 bolts on my 2SS when I did the LSA conversion. Interesting....

Start unplugging everything and remember where it all goes. I took pics of everything so I can get all the routing looking just like OEM. Pull the connector at the back on the driver side and unplug all the injectors and coils, then lift all the wiring harness out and away from the blower. The passenger side harness comes right off a little easier than the drivers side. Also pull the coolant lines that go to the top of the heads to get them out of the way. And remove the PCV hoses from the valve covers and the intake tube to get them out of the way. Go ahead and remove the throttle body.

Drilled a pilot hole first to make sure I was in the right place. Then enlarged the holes enough to get a 10mm socket on the bolts. You can get a 10mm wrench on the two back corners so no need for holes. All the other removed with a socket. The lid can be lifted off easily now.

Now just a matter of pulling the ten 8mm bolts that hold the blower to the heads. The back ones are a little tricky. Don't drop anything down into the heads. Get a friend to help lift it off.
There was a good bit of oil inside. Guess I will finally get a catch can when I put it back together next weekend.

Just for comparison. Look how much longer the rotors inside are in my buddies ZR1/LS9 blower.

Well that made it from 70 pounds to 64!

Looks nice. What kind of gains did you have?
