I chatted with a rep from Tire Rack today. Said they couldn't guarantee clearance with more concern at the front; he had some concern at the rear under suspension compression. Said the ZL1's and 1LE's already have such close tolerances straight from the factory. He explained the overall diameter using 35 aspect ratio tire increases by like 1.5 inches. I theorize then to downsizing to a 19" wheel to compensate for use with a 35 series tire so as to keep overall diameter as close as possible.

After several hours of research and some phone calls/online chats, I have come up with 2 solutions for ultra-high performance, all-season, run-flat set-ups that will work for those of us SS 1LE owners or any other Camaro owner with same size front/rear combo. They are:
MRR Design; models M017 "SS 1LE style", M228 "Z28 style" (see bub's pics above and credit goes to him), M716 "ZL1 1LE style", M650 "ZL1 style", etc. There are many other options as well, of course. Phastek and other retailers carry MRR wheels. My two considerations: 1) MRR M017, front 20x10, rear 20x10 with tires: Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+, 285/30ZR20 ASY 95Y ZP (ZP is Michelin for run-flat). This is a "square" set-up. These tires are restricted to wheel widths between 9.5-10.5 inches. 2) MRR M716, front 19x10, rear 19x11 with tires: Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+, 285/30ZR19 ASY 99Y ZP on all four wheels. This is a staggered wheel set-up but "square" tire set-up. Tires can be rotated but would need to be dismounted/remounted/balanced like was necessary with the 3rd gen Camaros. Note: The overall wheel/tire diameter of the 20" set-up is 26.8 inches. The overall wheel/tire diameter of the 19" set-up is 26.9 inches. Stock Goodyears are 28.8 inches front, 27.2 inches rear when new. These numbers are per Michelin and Goodyear respectively. So, there will be slight variance with speedometer (perhaps 2-3 mph typical highway speeds. The Michelins get generally favorable reviews, don't sacrifice too much in handling, and can be used in "light snow". Rated 30,000 miles (they are run-flats after all). Anyway, just wanted to share with all of you who are interested these solutions I came up with in addition to Bub's arrangement so if, like me, you wish to keep a run-flat arrangement you might could save yourself some time researching. Cheers! Larry |

AFAICT, it should work out about like this... DWS06 275-30-20 about 2% high DWS06 275-35-20 about 2% low DWS06 285-30-20 about 0.7% high I waffled a bit before deciding to go with 285s instead of 275s. I also think there are a couple other tires that technically got better reviews on Tire Rack than the Continentals, but I personally have had Conti DWS's in the past and loved them, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I personally don't expect the handling to be meaningfully impacted since I don't drive anywhere near the limits of this car on the street, especially when it's wet and/or cold outside. I do think it might slightly increase the wear on the rear wheel bearings but it's a fairly minor change so maybe not enough to notice. |

Just wanted to point out a typo mistake I made on the tires 20" versus 19". If 20", I listed correctly at 285/30ZR20. But on a 19", I meant to print 285/35ZR19. Basically, you would want to keep the overall wheel/tire combination height as close to that of stock. I referred to the spec sheets provided by the tire manufacturers for their tires to find find all of this wonderful information.
Chief, thanks for your compliment. Looks like rootus may have answered your question and his numbers look good to me. I'm pretty sure for owners of 1SS and 2SS using OEM wheel set-up or equivalent aftermarket sizes that Tire Rack has many options and choices for you all. However, I didn't wind up with any option for an ultra high-performance, all-season, run-flat as they apparently don't carry them. The only 3 choices that came up using the SS 1LE and ZL1 20x10 and 20x11 were just ultra high-performance, summer only tires. My update: I have elected to go with my 2nd option listed above: MRR M716 "ZL1 1LE" replicas 19x10 front, 19x20 rear sourced through Phastek. They're currently not available but coming soon so I'm on their waiting list to be contacted when they do. I'll also be going with the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ ASY ZP in 285/35ZR19 sources through Butler Tire here in the Atlanta metro area. Butler Tire specializes in wheels and tires high-end sports cars/sedans/etc, I've used them in the past for my '96 Impala SS and '02 Camaro SS, and been pleased with their work. Especially since they use a torque wrench to tighten wheel lug nuts. They're meticulous about their work. |

Oops! Typo. Should be 19x11 rear, not 19x20. Sorry about that. Been tossing around so many numbers lately :-/

I was hoping for 18s square setup for winter. Anyone test fitted some 18'' wheels with a success?

Honestly I would run the BFG AS2 285/35/20 (Y) -vs- the colder weather Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+ (W)... both All season tires but the slightly wider AS2 is a directional tire which steers a little better IMHO

305 35s rubbed in the rear at highway dips.. yes i moved the harness... i think the 35 profile is a bit tall. Also 285 35 thers is about a knife blade of clearance on the front strut... too close for me..

Does anyone happen to have the correct tpms part number for a sixth gen 1le that fits with the mrr228 rims? I see a couple different gm part numbers for a 1ss, so wanted to be sure I was getting the right ones. Thanks in advance for any help here!

I pulled the trigger and ordered my all-season setup through PK Auto Design (thanks Paul for your help). I'm looking forward to their arrival. Once here and installed, I'll be sure to come back to this post and update everyone with pics.

Last year I had a C7 Vette, changed the wheels and in 2 minutes the TPMS was fine!
