Has anyone noticed how thin and delicate the unibody structure is around the engine compartment on the 6th gen compared to the 5th gen?

The upper fender rails and radiator core support look a lot more beefy on the 5th gen. However, GM states that the body is 23% stiffer on the 6th gen. Look how thin and slender the radiator core support and upper fender rails are on the 6th gen in the photo on the bottom. Yikes!

First off, prayers to whoever was in this car.
Second, why the hell would they even try to sell something like this.

and the areas on the inside frame that are showing gray metal and not painted, should those have paint on them?

I had the dealer send mine to a "GM certified" body shop & paint those areas. 5 weeks later & I'm still getting paint dust from everywhere.

Junk yards can recycle the steel and aluminum. So they will buy any wreck no matter how twisted or destroyed it is. They'll drain all the engine fluids, remove anything not steel or aluminum, and sell it by weight.

That's a huge part of a junk yard's business. They actually make a lot of money doing that.

Then there are parts that as you can see even in this terrible wreck are still salvageable..... side view mirrors, door handles, maybe one of the wheels. Junk yards have people who's job it is every day to pick the good parts off, tag them, inventory them, and then they can be sold.

Seriously. If anyone busts their sideview mirror or door handle, check your local junk yards first. You might find one good as new in your color, and instead of paying $300.00 you pay $75.00 or maybe less. Junk yards aren't just for finding a wiper motor for a '79 Oldsmobile. You can actually find very nice, high quality parts for late model cars.

I'm sure once you rinse the blood off there's plenty of usable parts.

Definitely a "WTF???" pic.

You must work for a junkyard then. The prices the full service yards charge for a part equals about the same as it would cost for a brand new part from GM parts cheap direct, usually. And, in a lot of cases you have to buy to whole sub assembly to get the part you need which jacks the prices up even further.

I called about the roof rail drip covers on a wrecked 5th gen once. I wanted the factory painted roof rail covers in Summit White (it was a Summit White car) and they actually told me that I had to buy the whole roof section to get them. Yes, they wanted me to buy the whole roof assembly to get the OEM painted roof rail covers.

No way a light pole would look like that. It looks like it got hit by a plane. Or a container ship? I mean my gawd...

Hope whoever was in that will be ok but I dunno. Never seen anything quite like that.
