I wasn't expecting this exact configuration to be the Z/28 engine. I just think it shows what the LT1 is capable with a little more air flow and a little more cam.

I would expect a production version to have new heads, with a higher compression ratio, a port designed for CNC porting, new exhaust and intake manifolds and maybe a new exhaust from the cats back.

Depending on how much weight they can shed it doesn't need a ton more HP. As was already said, look what the GS does with the LT1

Of course, the other side of the coin for emissions is that GM could have simply not bothered trying to get this engine compliant. The hassle and expense might not be worth it, given the fairly modest market for crate engine swaps into emissions compliant late model cars.

That's true as well. There are many people who swap these things into cars that don't need to be smogged or just don't care about smog laws.

Maybe it is intended to go after the Mustang GT4 that was unveiled today.

I'm guessing LT4...sorry.

I'll qualify that by saying, whatever it is we've been seeing spy shots of has an LT4.

Just a guess of course.

But I could see something along the lines of this engine being in the rumored Z/28. With how good we have seen the 1LE and grand sport do with the LT1. They really don't need a ton more power to be some of the most track capable vehicles. I think anything over 500 would suit a Z/28 just fine
Gotta have at least 525 horses to be nice and close to the GT350R.

Please, wish and hope for a NA 525 to 550 hp motor.

It also said "Direct bolt-in replacement for Corvette and Camaro originally equipped with LT1 V8." Looks interesting. Would almost be a direct competitor to the GT350 Voodoo engine as far as performance.

This is a hot-cam LT1.

It is....possible....that this could be used in a production car, but it would entirely depend on whether or not it passes emissions standards. My guess is 'no'.

Yes ... if you are concerned about horsepower numbers on paper.

In reality, a regular old SS powered by an LT1 is almost as quick in a straight line as the GT350. An extra 70 or 80 hp would be great ... but its not essential, performance wise.

ANYthing is a guess right now. I just do not think that GM will put the LT4 in a Z/28 or ANY OTHER CAMARO model.

So, IF that is correct (and of course, THAT is a guess) then one of two things are possible.

1. The spy shots are of a ZL1-R WITH the LT4.
2. The spy shots are of a Z/28 WITHOUT the LT4.

I have watched the purported spy 6th Gen Z/28 vids and have never heard the semblance of any kind of supercharger whine so my money is that IF this is the next Z/28 it is NOT an FI car.

But alas, this is just a guess too... it is fun to speculate.

I think 500-530 hp would be perfect for the Z/28. Obviously, more would be better but if they can get over 500, I think it would out run the GT350R, given how fast the 1LE runs.
