CAI
I know there must be tons of threads on this subject, but my minimal skills prevent me from pulling them up. Just a couple of CAI questions.
Does installing a CAI generally require a tune ? (For some - or all ? ) Generally speaking, recommendation for “best” CAI for my 2013 SS auto. “Best” would be judged by horsepower gain, ease of installation, appearance, and lastly - price. My inclination is to purchase one with the clear (glass ?) top cover just because I like the looks. Again, apologies for a topic that has surely been covered. |

No tune required. On my 13 1LE LS3, I had the GM Z28 intake, loved it. It has been several years now, but if memory serves me right, you can't install the Z28 one on your L99 motor. Go with the CAI unit, good product

Cold Air Inductions. It’s the one you want. No tune needed. I have it and love the looks as well.

Another vote for Cold Air Inductions. No tune required and always finished at or near the top when CAI's are compared.

You can indeed install a GM Z/28 CAI on your L99 car. Been on two+ years. ZERO issues. Documented on a thread here somewhere 16HP gain on a dyno. Seals on the factory hood, no boxed enclosure required.

I also have the z28 on my L99. My vote is for that one all day.
The CAI inc. one is nice, but I really hate messing with those quarter turn screws to put my windshield washer fluid in.

For a cold air intake alone a tune isn’t required. The top three forum favorite intakes are CAI (Cold Air Inductions), Rotofab, and Vararam. Honorable mention goes out to K&N. If you want a cold air intake with a lid, Cold Air Inductions is your best bet as others have pictured above. Good luck and happy modding!

the stock air filter set up is a cold air intake. the only real gain is the filter on the aftermarket set ups. I think they make a filter of that type to go in the stock housing. I put in a CAI just because of the look.

K & N plus I like the sound it added to the car with just a stock exhaust. CAI is the most popular by far.

I went with the K&N Typhoon for the chrome look to go with all the under hood mods I was doing, plus I attend a lot of car shows and at the time didn't want to spend the extra dollars for the CAI brand, which is the best looking and functioning I have read.
