I have recently owned both. I currently use the MAX and the MAX will remain in my car until Valentine decides to update their firmware to newer technology. The V1 gave me so many false alerts that it just became a noise producer in the cockpit so i got rid of it for a stupid low price. I just recently bought the MAX and even though it's a big hefty for a detector, I aboslutely LOVE the GPS on it, the fact that it gives you amazing alerts and locks out the stationary ones, also can't beat the escort live feature. It might cost $50 a year but you get so much out of it, and it only gets better with more people on the escort live network.

Love my V1. The directional arrows give you critical info on the source of the signal. You also get the number of bogeys to tell how many signals are being detected. I had a escort 8500 x50 before and it is a great detector but the features mentioned on the v1 make it better.

Not to be THAT guy but I'm pretty sure there's an exact thread asking this question in the proper section. In any case just save your money and go with a redline. Whistler c85 and c90 also have pretty solid accurate range for under $200. I'm not sure where all you guys are getting your info from but nowadays you're only getting away with outright speeding at night when LEOs don't have a clear line of sight. Other than that detectors are pretty much only good to keep you from flooring it from a stop or exiting a turn. Any other situation and the LEO already has your ticket written out by the time your expensive max or expensive AND outdated V1 go off.

A detector is only as useful as your interpretations of the warnings it provides.

Numerous times it didn't go off, for example while a cop was shooting radar it did not alarm me, I went back again to see if just didn't go off. Passed by once more and nothing. It wasn't locked out either if that's what you were thinking. Almost 600$ for a paperweight.

Lots of reasons why a detector may not alert. Just because you pass by a cop it doesnt mean your detector will go off. Not all cops work traffic, not all have radar, and just because they have radar it may not be on all the time. Instant on radar can be used on radar bands other than laser. A detector is tool which used correctly can be useful.
