Question V6 vs. V8

So, just like everyone else here, I absolutely love my Camaro. I am driving my dream car, I get happy every time that I see it, and I love driving it. It is a really beautiful and powerful car.

Muscle car enthusiasts like to have conversations with me because of it, and I think its great, but there always seems to be a huge letdown when I tell them that my Camaro is a V6. Okay, I understand that there is a history behind the V8 engine in a muscle car. Obviously it has more power. It is faster. You can do more to the engine. Awesome. I think that the V8s are wonderful vehicles, just like my V6.

My problem is when people feel the need to brag about the fact that they own a V8 and why it is so much better than my V6. I am not the type to brag about my car, if someone asks me about it, I'll answer their questions and talk about it, but I bought this car for myself and not others. I had a conversation the other day when I told someone that they had a nice muscle car, and his only reply to me was "yeah, but mine is a V8"(...I never said my car was better than yours). I also have other situations like that with similar dialogue too where people look down on me for not opting for a V8.

Is it okay for me to love my V6 Camaro, save $10k+, and be able to talk about it with people, or should I stay silent and avoid being looked down upon by the muscle car community for not owning a V8?

Does anyone else have this issue, or is it just me? Please weigh in if you own a V6 or a V8 so that I can get your side of it.

Your V6 is rated in brake hp.
Back in the day, the rating was in gross hp: engine alone, no accessories on it like an alternator or a fan, or even exhaust manifolds sometimes.

Your V6 is more powerful, more reliable, more streetable, more durable, and better all around than many V8s back in the day. Your V6 is superior to several flavors of factory 327 V8, and some factory 350s. When I got the 455 that I put in my '70 Buick, that engine was rated at 230 net hp: '74 block with '73 heads and intake/exhaust manifolds. 230! if it was gross hp, it would have been 310-320 I'd guess, it was a smog engine. 'Course I tossed all that nonsense and put in better parts

I would love to see your V6 rated in gross hp so we could compare to muslce cars say '66 to '70, before they went to net hp.

It happens with the Mustang guys too lol . Idk especially when u gots 300+hp out of a sixer , nothing wrong with that . I can only compare to 05 GT
4.6 v8 300 hp roughly , new V6's 300hp so why the alienation from the v8's ?

Btw I'd rock a new 6er Camaro any day

Tree'd hope he don't ask me to eat humble pie .. cheers

I couldn't afford a V8 without compromising on the 2LT and RS extras that I wanted, not to mention the added fuel costs.

I get the same responses you get when I tell people I have a V6 and not a V8. They start to talk about V8s and well I end the conversation then. I feel belittled when I say V6, but then I think I have my dream car and they are still dreaming about theirs. So far no one I have talked to about my Camaro has or owns a muscle car and I have been able to brush off their V8 and V6 comments.

For me having the V6 fits my commuting needs, about 2k a month) and fortunately I have a BMW M235 and a Z06 on the weekends, but you can bet your sweet arse I wish I was driving a SS, but I couldn't justify it to my significant other and myself on why I need 3 top of the line cars. Its like de ja vu
