And that's what gets me. The only reason I chose a V6 was because of my 125 mile commute. I would have bought a SS if I knew these numbers were possible. Hmmnnn 2016 better look good!

Soooo, it's a conspiracy? GM is actively defrauding their customers by padding the numbers on the DIC?

Along with others, just the nature of the beast. I know if I added a cam, it would probably drop to about 18 mpg. If I want a car that gets 35 mpg, I will get a little 4 banger and enjoy.
I've got a K&N CAI on my Camaro and I don't come anywhere close to this on highway miles. Best I can get is 25. After looking at the Roto Fab intake, I don't see any reason why it would be different from another CAI.

My car actually didn't lose any noticeable fuel mileage even after long tubes and a tune.

Is a tune recommended after installing a CAI? I never did one and can't recall the instructions saying anything about it.

Really didnt have a choice. I bought the car 300+ miles from home. Traffic was bad so it never stayed stuck at one speed for to long. Stayed around 75 for the most part

It is not a conspiracy. There simply isn't a perfect science to calculating it in the car. It doesn't know exactly how much fuel you're putting in, exactly how much is wasted at idle, etc.

Correct. The SS can't get 28 MPG or anywhere near it. Even trying, my '10 SS
gets anywhere from 22 to Mid 23's MAX ! On the interstate and again that's TRYING
with cruise control, no traffic and keeping it under 75. That's the truth.
I got 24.1 returning from camaro5 Indy Fest at 3 AM on interstate 70. Over one
hour , No traffic, no braking, no stops.
Sorry, just can't stand al the SS MPG BS.

You are incorrect in some of your assumptions..

The examples you have given are very easy to explain.. The number given to you by your DIC represents the average it has calculated since the last time it was reset..

For example the car is drivin moderately for several tanks and gets say a MPG of 24. The very next tank of gas the car is drivin not so moderately.. The overall MPG avg will lower on your DIC but if you took the average of JUST that tank of gas it might be well below 24 and get your example of 18mpg..

If one would want their MPG/tank, a reset at each fill would be needed.

Edit: My car has minor mods with a tune.. I can easily average +26MPG on an interstate trip @75mph...

With just a CAI you don't need a tune. Depending on the brand, your AFR may not be a flat line but it will be within spec and not cause any issues.

That's how averages work. You want to capture the more aggressive driving to make the numbers truer to real world application. If you only reset before driving granny and then use that as your everyday number, then you're only fooling yourself. Resetting at each tank only skews the real life results.

Better idea - paper, pen, and trip resets (not DIC resets) with refills at the exact same gas station.

I thought the L99 cut off half the cylinders on the highway essentially turning into a 4banger
