challenger slow because of wheel hop? What about Camaro?

my dads buddy brought over a new challenger with the 6.1 srt 8 in it. my dad drove it and said it was slow because their was a lot of wheel hop when you gave it a lot of gas and it started slipping. will this be true on the camaro

Well, if I'm not mistaken, '08s didn't have limited slips in the back. This won't happen on Camaro. The wheelhop, we've been told, has been addressed. I'm sure some of the more hardcore will get 'hop out of the car when they get a sticky tire on there but I think most of us won't have much of a problem. Aside from that, I think Camaro should only be a tick-or-two faster than the SRT8.

If you don't modulate your acceleration when you launch, you could suffer this problem. My thinking is that if you use the Traction COntrol , until you learn the best launch technique, you will probably avoid a lot ofthis problem.

Hopefully, a lot of the wheel hop problems seen on the GTO will be managed better with the different axle construction and TCS.

Heck if you get that bad a wheel hop, you are only frying half your tires! LOL

I don't see much more than a tenth or two. The power's about the same and Camaro weighs a little less. I think the six-speeds will be a great match, and it'll come down to which driver is better, and which chassis is better composed.

Yet another reason irs blows. Usually someone comes out with a bushing kit or something else to fix the wheelhop issues with the irs equipped cars. Wheelhop is very very hard on all drivetrain components and usually leads to halfshaft failures.

I read a post some time ago (from Fbodfather?) that the wheel hop issues had been corrected by the use of somewhat oval shaped halfshafts. I know for a fact this subject has been brought up before and it is supposedly "officially" corrected.

Why would that make me a mustang fan? You start making serious hp and add a sticky tire at the strip and let me know how it works out. The mustang cobra had irs for 4 or 5 yrs. and when dragging them usually snapped the halfshafts. Now you must remember these cars today are noticeably heavier so that means even more stress.

I'm quite certain you'll find the Camaro to be more than "just a tick" faster than the Chally. That 6.1 Hemi is over rated and the LS3 is under rated. (and I'm a Dodge guy at heart) Been there, dyno-ed that! That combined with the 400 lb weight difference and I think you'll see 6-8 tenths if not a full second.
The 6.1 Chally does have an advantage in the rear dept though, stick cars get 3.91 gears. But put those in the Camaro and look out

It's a tank that's why.

I do like the SE in Red. Looks tight for a cheap car.

It's a comfortable well built american car. They don't make em like they used to.

Looks 10x better than that butt ugly new Mustang.
