I remember quite vividly sitting in a banquet for a Camaro car show and people were saying "Why even have a v6 option? It should only have v8s!"

Use Camaro5's population as an example - how many people bought LS or LT 5th gens and later upgraded to an SS?
Fair enough but I have more teens criticize my Ls for my being a V6 then anything else.

Heres the bad news though the base coupes will no longer have a V8 or V6 engine BUT a 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder making between 260-325 horsepower but will get 34MPG in the city & 47MPG on the highway. This could be devastating news for muscle car fans now. And it goes on to say the SS & Z/28 will be powered by the new Gen 5 V8 which is estimated to produce between 440-490hp and of course the ZL1 will be the top dog still with extreme horsepower numbers. Its going to be hard to get people into a base 4-cylinder Camaro.
I fail to see how a lighter, more efficient turbocharged four cylinder reaching peak torque output at low RPMs, powering a significantly lighter Camaro is "devastating news for muscle car fans."

The fuel economy estimates are absolutely laughable, though. This isn't a Cruze or Sonic. It will be geared/tuned for performance.

The Camaro already has had a 4-cylinder. Mustang is going the same direction. Don't like it? Call your representatives and tell them to get rid of CAFE.

Forged internals you say?? GM must have forgot.

I'd like to believe SOMETHING about the 2013 Camaro, IF any information were ever released.

Yep, and even down to the sodium filled valves ... The LNF is nothing to laugh at for those that have doubts about a 4 banger ...

So try to emulate it into a larger engine? I mean a v6 with 130hp per liter. Ours would be what? 468 hp... might not be simple but would be cool.

Here's something about the 2013 Camaro you can believe - it's still going to be a 5th gen.

Yep, and mine puts out around 150hp per liter and 165tq per liter. Now if you were to use those numbers on say a 5.7 liter with the same type setup ... OMG !!!

Doesn't sound like a bad news to me. I would love to see a 2 liter turbo under the hood of a camaro but of course, it will have to be smaller and lighter than what we have now. With these gas prices going up, a smaller direct injected turbo engine is no brainer. If you are one of those V8 to the heart type then I can see why you would be disappointed, but I know what those little factory turbo engines are capable of GM should have did jay leno type forced induction V6 from the start. Some will be delighted if it really happen and some will be grouchy just as we see now LOL

GM is looking at a new " baby " camaro calling it the 130R right now. If built it will roll on the alpha RWD platform. The last concept I seen had a 1.4 turbo in it and a 2.0 turbo. Either way the next camaro I bet will have a DI V8 5.0L to 5.5L. My 08 G6 with a 2.4 is a 30 MPG car on a good day with 160HP a new camaro with a 3.6 with the right options is a 30 MPG car with 324HP. So a by 2016 we may be it a 300HP+ 40+ mpg car. Just my 2c

If they put out a Camaro that gets 40 mpg it will be a completely different car than what we have. It would have to be about 2,000 pounds lighter for a start. And it's sure not going to have 300 HP unless they come up with some truly amazing new technology in the next couple of years.

I had a turbo 4 car that came with 263 HP, a Mazda Speed3. It was fun but it averaged about 20 MPG in a mix of city and highway. GM can no doubt build a car with a 300 HP turbo 4, or a car that gets 40 MPG but one car isn't going to have both.

That is pretty impressive, no doubt

But the current 3.6 V6 is getting near those numbers also. Currently we have guys getting nearly 100HP per liter N/A. Otherwise, we have a couple TT setups dynoing at almost 140hp liter.

I don't really have anything against a turbo 4 in a lightweight Camaro as long as it has a nice torque curve, but if I had my choice I'd take the current 3.6 because of some the great things going on right now with it in the mod world. I really hope they don't offer just a turbo 4, and a V8 for the next gen, but at the same time I guess I wouldn't be suprised if thats what it ended up being :(
