Tips for the buy at dealership
Hey all - I am picking up my ZL1 this Saturday - your tips and thoughts at the dealer are requested - want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row before I leave as I'm driving 4.5 hours to get it.
Usually the only thing I get is the clear bra I've never purchased the undercarriage protection - so...probably I will not. Also, he wanted $600 for the clear bra, which I thought was high, but I can't remember what I have paid on other cars - what have others paid for their ZL1? and should I take it somewhere else for that another dealer, or a shop? BTW, I'm picking up a New 2013 black on black, A6, exposed, Nav. Last edited by DenverTaco07; 05-15-2014 at 09:26 PM. |

make them throw the clear bra in or no deal, they'll make it happen. also if ur financing make them throw in GAP insurance this is also negotiable price they can eat if they really want to sell it.

I wouldn't have the dealer touch my car, not even wash it. Most dealers don't car about the car only the sale.

This may sound insane but I insist on waxing any car I buy before I pull off the lot. I also request to use an inside bay to do it as dings and scratches stand out in enclosed environments. It's very disappointing to pull into your garage at home to discover a low hanging door ding. I am careful to check all mold lines (doors, hood, trunk, etc.) for proper alignment. If I discover anything that requires repair/adjustment I reschedule delivery to allow me to inspect the repair before I pass the cash.

I believe Madonna wore clear bras in the 90s. Miley Cirus tried one but she just looked like her dad's chest - minus the hair.
I admit that I stole this reply from another thread.

+1. I do my own work. Last time I let a dealer touch my car was to do an alianment after I put struts and bushings in. When I looked under the car the boots were twisted in knots because they didn't loosen the clamps

Check the "spring spacers". They forgot to remove mine, and I had to drove it like 300 miles. If they are removed check if they are in the glove box or trunk.

Say no to everything the dealer offers. The 3M clear bra get really bad reviews, and may yellow in a few years. Spend that money with someone who uses better quality stuff
Say no to any coating, theft proof, sealants, etc....No to extended warranty, if you want one, you'll get a GM (or aftermarket) one cheaper, and better to by in 11.9 months. Good luck, and have fun driving! |

Don't tell them how far you're driving or let them know how interested you are; the more you want it the less they will budge. They also make money if you have them get you financed so you can use that to negotiate a lower price. Another trick when you're in finance is tell them you will buy the extended warranty, service, etc. if they can get you a lower rate (i.e. lower their finance profit) then cancel the warranty within 30 days.
Shop around for dealers in the area that are advertising discounted cars and take those ads to the dealership. Also, don't be afraid to walk away if they don't give you a reasonable deal. I got $5,000 off the 2014 that I bought in February at 2.9% interest and $300 in gas cards. |

other issue is that I cannot find an automatic ANYWHERE (with only those options) other than this one for that price, ordering would also drive price up. I'm rolling the dice a little on this one, hoping it works out. Last edited by DenverTaco07; 05-16-2014 at 01:19 PM. |
