[Comment From WhitneyWhitney: ]
Hello, will there be an auto trans in the ZL1
Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:05 Whitney
3:05

Al Oppenheiser:
We have strategically gone after mass savings on the ZL1, such as the Wheels and Tires are 22 lbs less than the LS3 Wheels and Tires. The Carbon Fiber 'Mowhawk' is aimed at mass reduction, all to compensate for the additional mass of the Supercharger, Suspension upgrades, etc.
Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:05 Al Oppenheiser
3:05

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Do you think we should offer an automatic trans on the ZL1?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:05 John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr
3:05

[Comment From Mike baileyMike bailey: ]

Schr - We did the world debut of the all-new Sonic in Detroit. That's a real important new car coming this year. And we are launching Camaro Convertible now....So we have a lot of stories, a good problem to have
Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:06 David Caldwell
3:06

[Comment From slsl: ]

Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:08 SH

Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:09 Al Oppenheiser
3:09

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:

[Comment From Greg Samuels Greg Samuels: ]
I'm a little confused I guess but why put the iconic ZL1 badge on the car when it doesn't even have an all aluminum 427 powerplant? Was it not the engine that was the original designation?
Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:30 Greg Samuels
3:30

Al Oppenheiser:
The great thing about the ZL1 having so much performace and technology is that we can look at other Camaro opportunities on the SS and V6's to incorporate as appropriate. We are always looking!

Greg - You're exactly right, ZL1 was originally name of 427 aluminum engine, a technical marvel when it came out. No, the displacement of this one is not the same as that....But this new car is very high tech, very high power, so aligned in this philosophical way
Wednesday February 9, 2011 3:32 David Caldwell

[Comment From Cruz Cruz: ]
To Mr Oppenheiser...awesome new ZL1. Now I have to convince mom and dad to get one. Shouldn't be too hard!! Cruz

[Comment From camaro enthusiast camaro enthusiast: ]
To Mr Oppenhieser I convinced my dad to buy a 2010 Red Jewel Tincoat L99 Camaro SS last year when I was 11 and I think I can convince him to buy the new ZL1 maybe a cyber gray metallic one.

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Ironhead... We continue to work on evolving Camaro. Regarding Z28, all I can say is stay tuned...

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Terry --- Our exhaust features dual mode similar to the Corvette... Yes!!

[Comment From Gil Gil: ]
David or John will the onboard display be digital or will it still be the same no touch? Can there be a rear camera added or be part of the standard equipment.

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Gil -- the ZL1 will have a rear view camera standard...

[Comment From CrimsonHowitzer CrimsonHowitzer: ]
Was the rear spoiler born from functionality or styling?

[Comment From Patt Patt: ]
Is there any changes made in the drivetrain at all?

[Comment From Eric Eric: ]
Where is the rear camera located specifically?

David Caldwell:
Patt - yes a huge number of changes in the drivetrain, in order to apply the tremendous power of the LSA engine smoothly

Al Oppenheiser:
The rear spoiler was designed from many hours of wind tunnel work, looking to get the front splitter and rear spoiler to net a vehicle that makes downforce. Thanks for asking.

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Eric -- the camera is located just above the license plate area

[Comment From KentWatkins KentWatkins: ]
No comment on the Z28 then? The Z28 was brought out to battle the Boss Mustang back in the Trans Am days.

[Comment From 1BAADSS 1BAADSS: ]
Great addition! Thanks so much guys! Keep up the fine work!

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
KentWatkins.. I think it is very interesting to note that history of the Z28 and its comparison to Boss 302...

[Comment From bobby bobby: ]

[Comment From joe C joe C: ]
will the front bumper and T3 duct lighting be interchangeable with the 2010 -11 camaros and the current T3 ducts out in the market? fourth attempt

[Comment From Mitchell Mitchell: ]
Is the new camaro zl1 going to be made on a assembly line?

[Comment From Ben Ben: ]
Go to http://www.chevrolet.com/camaro-zl1/ it has all the info there. Yes it is what we have been waiting for.

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Mitchell -- yes, the ZL1 will be made on the line at Oshawa, Canada

Al Oppenheiser:
One third of the ZL1 was redesigned from the SS it was based from. The front fascia/splitter/Hood are not interchangeable with the current SS.

[Comment From radz28 radz28: ]
Beyond what one would expect regarding adding weight for the SC, the supporting components, and beefier drivetrain components, were there any significant chassis measures taken beyond the strut tower brace we see?

Al Oppenheiser:
radz28, there was over one third of the Camaro redesigned for the ZL1, most of which were suspension and driveline components. Tough to see these when the car is on a stage or pedestal, but take my word, the extra work is worth it.

[Comment From Army Trucker RS Army Trucker RS: ]
Will The ZL1 Be going Up against the Shelby GT500??

[Comment From Kevin Kevin: ]
Has the ZL1 done any testing at Nurburgring or do you have any plans of testing it there?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Army Trucker RS -- I think the question is will the Shelby GT500 be able to keep up with the ZL1

Al Oppenheiser:
We have not only been to the Nurburgring, but extensive Autobahn testing, VIR track testing, Spring Mountain, Beaver Run, Milford and Yuma proving grounds already, and we are going to continue through the development process.

[Comment From Sam Sam: ]
Will t-tops ever be available?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Sam -- at this point, there are no plans to offer t-tops on the Camaro

[Comment From Im going to buy a ZL1 Im going to buy a ZL1: ]
What exactly is dual mode?

Al Oppenheiser:
Dual mode exhaust is a specifically tuned exhaust that uses vacuum from the intake manifold to help open and close the exhaust valves, giving you an aggressive start-up and idle sound, aggressive driveaway, but also steady state cruising with a 'refined power' sound. Similar technology to the hugely successful Corvette

[Comment From Jimmy W Jimmy W: ]
It seems that the only gap left in the Camaro lineup when comparing it to the Ford Mustang is the gap that the Boss 302 fills in Ford's lineup. Any plans to fill that gap in the future?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Jimmy W - great question. We continue to look at how we can evolve and improve the Camaro.

[Comment From Avery Avery: ]
Will this car be a beast (weekend warrior) or can it tame down for street driving (everyday)?

David Caldwell:
Avery - This is one of the feats of ZL1's Magnetic Ride suspension. Designed to be excellent on the road, as well as track.

[Comment From screamin eagle screamin eagle: ]
I have a conv. ordered now can I change to buy the pace car- when?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Screamin eagle -- there will be only 400 Indy Pace Car replica models available in the U.S. They will be only offered through the top selling Camaro dealers.

[Comment From richierich richierich: ]
limited production?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Richierich -- will do everything to match the market demand..

David Caldwell:
Let me reiterate for those who may have joined after the start....550 hp is a real good estimate of the power level. In showrooms around the start of 2012.

[Comment From radz28 radz28: ]
Can you comment on what other cars ZL1 is competing directly with?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
radZ28 -- our primary competitor will obviously be the GT500, but we consider any manufacturer who can offer at least 550 horsepower a competitor

[Comment From retro/rs/ss retro/rs/ss: ]
ride height compared to 2ss? lowered???

Al Oppenheiser:
The ZL1 is currently approximately 7 mm lower than the SS

[Comment From SS man SS man: ]
is the TC and stability control more aggressive than reg SS

Al Oppenheiser:
SS man, the TC and Stability controls are specifically tuned for the increased performance of the ZL1, so yes more aggressive.

[Comment From JCamaro JCamaro: ]
Does the hood have functional air intake or just another fake "mail slot"?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
JCamaro - the hood features functional air extractors...

[Comment From Randy Randy: ]
Will the ZL1 come with a short-shifter gear lever?

Al Oppenheiser:
Randy, The ZL1 comes with a GM-designed short-throw shifter.....you'll love the gates and efforts.

David Caldwell:
For those asking about track times vs Z06 or Cadillac V....that's not really our focus. Those cars are awesome in their own right. We do have competitors that we are targeting tho....

[Comment From Mike Mike: ]
You may not be able to answer this...but can you tell me who's s/c you are using?

Al Oppenheiser:
Mike, thanks for the question. We are using the Eaton Generation 6 Supercharger, which spins at over 2.5 times engine speed. It has a broader range of power through the RPM band, and also an effective use of Horsepower at higher RPM - not traditional of superchargers.

[Comment From Robert Robert: ]
What displacement is the Eaton S/C?

Robert, it's a 1.9L

[Comment From Scott Koscik Scott Koscik: ]
When you say 500 Indy Pace Car replicas are going to be produced does that include the "festival" cars used at the track during the month of May?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Scott Koscik - yes, the 50 festival cars are included in the 500, as well as some vehicles for the Canadian market.

[Comment From Nicole Nicole: ]
When will GM/dealers start taking orders?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Nicole: We'll start accepting orders in the fourth quarter of this year

[Comment From The Rock The Rock: ]
I apologize if this has already been addressed, I just got here. Anyway, will the ZL1 be offered @ all dealers or is this another limited edition only available @ top dealers?

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
The Rock -- we'll announce ordering and allocation plans later this year

[Comment From Mike NMT Mike NMT: ]
As a percentage, how much of the car's weight is on the front wheels?

David Caldwell:
Mike - 52/48 wt distribution

[Comment From Alan Meyer Alan Meyer: ]
Will the ZL1 hood scoop be functional or only cosmetic like the SS?

David Caldwell:
Alan - the hood is completely functional. Tons of aerodynamic research is behind that

[Comment From Me Me: ]
I'm going to cry the first time I see one of these in person, just an FYI

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Me -- You will not be the only one...

[Comment From Dave Dave: ]
sorry for my bad english, the dash is diferent from the ss or is just stick

David Caldwell:
Dave - yes the interior is different in several ways from today's SS

John Fitz - Camaro Marketing Mgr:
Lot's of questions on pricing... The only thing we can say at this time is that we will announce a price by the end of the year... We plan to be competitive with our competitive set

[Comment From LS3SS LS3SS: ]
are the braake carbon ceramic?

David Caldwell:
LS3 - no, not carbon ceramic

Al Oppenheiser:
Thank you, Dale. I guess we're done for today. I appreciate the Camaro support from you and everyone else! Have a good day!

David Caldwell:
OK folks, We're blown away with the interest, enthusiasm and questions from you all. Thanks for making Camaro the most popular car in its segment. Thanks for joining us today. Keep checking chevrolet.com/camaro for updates, and camaro facebook

I wonder if they're finally going to start offering some serious GMPP parts for the Camaro now...

If I were to buy it I would do a cam and pulley swap, upgraded to some longtubes, and then get a tune and be done with it as far as performance goes. It wouldn't need much else besides some sticky tires for the track and some window tint for appearance.

This is the answer that stood out for me as well. Maybe they are saving it for a little later.

Seems they may need to change the title of this forum section back to Z28 topics and create a new one for the ZL1

Besides not denying the Z28 rumors, I think the most useful information was that all Camaro colors should be available on ZL1 and that the carbon fiber stripe is optional.

Or create a new forum for the Z28 if it exists...if they build it. Which would be at least a year after the ZL1's out...imo, anyways.

I hope it's sooner than later. I'm sure their hands are pretty full right now though.

I followed the whole chat. Tried to ask a few questions but I don't have the pull that radz has.

I noticed he spelled your username wrong on one response. lol

Anyway, I really like that front fascia. I was a bit disappointed that it won't fit on an SS.

LOL, absolutely....,cryptic subliminal messages and Jedi mind tricks..., but, it definetly more entertaining than "we can't confirm or deny that". It's an affirmation without information! And it's great theater to boot!
