Mixing fuel.

So some of my 4cyl buddies are mixing e85 and 93oct claiming they are running basically 98oct fuel. They have a 93oct tune. Any truth to this or just ricer talk?

Bad idea unless you built your car to run more than E10 ethanol.

If the cars were tuned to run on 93 octane then running "98" won't help them at all anyway. My motorcycle makes 150HP from a 998cc engine but runs on 87 octane, I won't gain any power by going to 93, in fact I might lose power.

Engines run more efficiently using the octane rated fuel they were built to run on, anything more is a waste.

this will only work if you buy the 100hp chip on ebay.
your friends are idiots. dont do it unless your tuned for it and then you would have to mix it consistently. total wast of time and money.

No, it would be ~170 proof which is what the kid is asking about. Still not a good idea unless you're set up to run that much ethanol and tuned for it.
