2nd gear launch

So I keep getting told to launch from 2nd at the track. I'm on street tires. Will launching from 2nd help any?

No leave in first gear only . I don't know who told you that but obviously they don't drag race !

It'll be tough to get out of the whole on those tires you will have to slip the clutch and floor it at the same time if that makes sense , it's an art really lots of practice and seat time will get you there just go have fun and see how you do!

I tried to launch in 2nd for autox several runs, I found it was much harder to get a consistent launch using 2nd gear. First it much easier to just modulate throttle if you need to control wheel spin. Versus a bad 2nd gear launch meaning you're bogged down and don't go anywhere.

Well I tired it for the hell of it. Made no difference in time or speed. I consistently running a 12.2 at 125mph. I am on street tires but also on stock axles.

Unless you've changed to 3.91's or 4.11's stay in first.

I asked the same question to the shop that has done all of my mods. He said absolutely not, unless you want to replace the clutch every year. He gave me advice that takes food off his table.
