Size 315 tire in the rear?

Hey guys is it possible and is it good/bad to run a 315 in the back? And do i run a 35 or 30 profile?

I have been running 20x315 35 on rear now for awhile. I love them and no issues.

My next rear tire will be a 315/35-20. I don't like the blown out look of the 285/35-20.

I'm sure it will work ,but from what I understand the stock size was to make it handle better , not to look better. But since I have never had any experience with different size rear tires on this car I would have to defer to people who have driven both on a track/road course on this .

You'll mess up the balance and therefore the handling. But if you don't care then go right ahead. The rears do have a lot of wheel well gap and it can be a visual turn off. Other threads have discussed this issue.

off topic: I have noticed 315/35/20 on the new BMW x5. Dunlop sports. For a soccer mom SUV it looks pretty d*mn good from the rear.

I have 315/35's and don't have any issues with them. They hookup a lot better than the stock ones. That's just comparing them to my dad's 1LE who still has stock tires on it.

I'm going with 305/35/20 MT ET Streets II for my next tires.

315/35/20 will work with absolutely no issues at all as long as you go with 43 offset. Plenty of people run with that. I have 275/40/20 w/35 offset up front and 315/35/20 w/43 offset in the rear, plus lowered 1" on all corners. ZERO ISSUES.

I am thinking about doing 305 for the rear. Question for anyone that has larger rear tires: do you have your speedometer adjusted for the increased rotating diameter? Is tuning the only way to do it?

just avoid the track with that setup, you will have a tendency to plow(ie understeer) through the corners as the car will not rotate correctly......

Good or bad depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

For looks only. Go for it with a 315/35/20. The OD of the tire is about .9" taller than the stock 1LE 285/35/20 so the back of the car will be just a hair under .5" taller.

If you want to carve canyons or track the car this is a bad choice as the car will not rotate and will actually understeer more as mentioned above.

I have had the 285/35/20, 275/40/20s, 305/30/19, 325/30/19 and now 305/35/19s on my 1LE just to play around with sizes and feel. I say this because if you are going for traction off the line compound and brand is more important than width. My current 305/35/19s (on all 4 corners) launch from a dig better than even the 325/30/19 Goodyears did and better Way better than stock. So much so I have surprised a couple Friends in GTRs not in launch mode as they didn't think they needed it.

Is the 315 to wide for the rimrim causing the tire to balloon more on aggressive take off?

I want the best width for launching.
