Uhh Ohh...Better get...Maaco???
My SS is blk on blk on blk...I have decided to add some matt black 3M Rally stripes. Can I go to Maaco to have installed correctly? Should I just deal with dealers? Also where is the best place to buy my stripe kit?

Find a shop local to your area that installs vinyl and you can order what you need off of eBay by the foot. If your are dyi type person on a scale of 1-10 its ~6 to install use knifeless tape it makes job easier.

I like to use knifeless tape to install different vinyl stripes on my own car. I change out styles and colors. It is very easy to do. Plenty of videos on youtube.

Knifeless tape is amazing..... if you are going to do it yourself, start watching YouTube videos, it's not hard. If you don't want to do that, go pay a tint shop 100 bucks they will put them on. Big worm graphics is a great place to get stripes online for camaro.

You can buy rolls of 3M matte black vinyl on amazon and mess up installing them 4 times before you would break even buying pre-cut. You can pay $150 for pre-cuts that you could possibly mess up installing. Stuff happens: Bugs that fly under right as you lay down the vinyl, edges that you snag with something, melting it when you try to heat gun out a wrinkle, etc.

DO NOT GO TO MAACO!
Had a bumper painted at Maaco a ways back...friend hit it, didn't want to take the insurance hit or pay a bunch of money...so I helped him out taking it there. Fast forward to...5 minutes after viewing the bumper at Maaco. Go to pick the bumper up and put in the bed of the truck and a bunch of the paint cracked off. Ended up not mattering as the car was traded in after the main engine seal started a leak and needed several other repairs in the thousands (3-4) of dollars. |

Who knows if you'll get a good or bad guy at Macco, I'm sure you could get lucky and have the job done right. But consider the business model. The Macco guys are a kinda good at everything, really good at nothing. They change tires, paint fenders, fix transmissions. But they don't put on stripes every day. And stripes take a little bit of skill, and you want somebody that does it for a living. That's a tint and stripe shop. Find one and you'll be a lot better off.
