They are almost exactly the same size. Cruze has grown from Cavalier / Cobalt size to where Malibu used to be and Malibu has grown to almost where Impala is. The main reason for this is the EPA fuel economy regulations. The targets that each vehicle are supposed to meet are determined by their shadow area....the area between the wheels. Vehicles with greater shadow area have lower mpg targets than vehicles with smaller shadow area. So if you can make the vehicle lighter, and stretch the wheelbase, and widen the track, homerun!

This is why FCA dropped the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. They were the heaviest vehicles in their class and had the worst fuel economy. To improve them would have required more engineering and investment than FCA was willing to devote to those old architectures. So now they are focusing on SUVs and vans, pretty much across the board, plus Charger and Challenger. Now they are at the point where they have to decide what to do with Charger and Challenger, because they are also the heaviest vehicles in their class with worst fuel economy. They'll either move them to the Giorgio architecture or drop one of both of them.
Yeah, I'm getting better at recognizing the differences between Cruze, Malibu, and Impala, subtle as they may be..lol..I went with the Impala, it still had the largest dimensions for passengers and cargo of all of those three...Plus, the 6-cyl was only offered in the Impala...But you sort of make my point, why get rid of the Impala if the Malibu is going to grow to that size anyhow?....I can't see the rationale for "large sedans don't sell" when you have three that are close to being the same...Just keep the largest one (Impala)...offer it in Biscayne, Bel-Air, and Impala trim levels, and call it a day....lol....Get rid of the Malibu and Cruze!...lol

Sorta like "why is Gen 6 Camaro a better car than Gen 5 Camaro.". Impala is built on an earlier version of Epsilon architecture. The newer generation that Malibu and Regal are on is lighter, more rigid and allows for making a car that is longer and wider than the last generation Malibu while still being significantly lighter. Since the older smaller Malibu was already lighter than the Impala, what you have is the newer Malibu that is almost as large as the Impala, but significantly lighter, better handling, and probably more durable. If you need bigger than Malibu, there's Equinox and Traverse. The current Impala (and Taurus and Avalon) are the last of what are called E-Segment cars. When you look at what customers buying C-Segment Utilities (Equinox) and D-Segment Utilities (Traverse) are turning in and/or identifying as 2nd choice vehicles, it's E-Segment sedans.

C-Segment (Cruze, Corolla, Civic) are declining in sales, but still selling ok. Same for D-Segment sedans (Malibu, Camry, Altima). The fact that Ford appears to be ending the Fusion is evidence that D-Segment sedan may also be winding down faster than originally expected. Honda Accord is a bit of an anomaly. It is E-Segment sized, but seems to sell like a D-Segment.

6/21 ordering and 8/20 production is later than usual, which may indicate refresh change-over time.

Prices were released 5/26 last year

Does this mean Kise was wrong about the refresh being cancelled!?! IDK

We have the mules out, we have basically the confirmation for the new 3LT trim - I'm pretty sure they will not cancel the refresh at this point. With the Mustang refresh out they have to do something to counter the dropping sales

Not saying that Kise is wrong... However, we've often had people that "know a guy" that spreads information that never happens.

Looking at your join date, I'm sure you've seen that a lot.

Agreed, I got behind one the otherday with the funky tail lights and was reminded how bad they look. So glad they changed so much for 2016. Hopefully a refresh comes along that allows for interchangeable parts. If the new tail lights look good enough and are interchangeable then I might pick up a set.

Sales for the 2014 refresh year was the second best since camaro went back into production, fugly or not it was a success , thats almost 20,000 more then the 6th gen camaro sold in 2017 . Chevy needs a miracle refresh to bring sales back to the level in 2014 . I think this new refresh will just divide the fan base even more , its funny that some people are expecting a turn back to retro looks .

LOL, retro is a bold statement that says, "I've run out of fresh ideas". As much as I love a nice 70 1/2, I don't think bringing back a 50 year old design is going to improve sales.

Truthfully, I don't think they would cancel the refresh.

It's too cheap to do, and definitely needed.

What nags at me is that Kise seems to be a decent, good member of Camaro6, I read some previous posts.

Plus, the Warren part seems legit and probable for full inside info.

Just a curious brain teaser, probably.

LOL - looks like you've seen some "changing" info too, by your join date.

To sum up, let's look to DGthe3's sig motto:

I would be surprised if they offer this. Price of vehicles continues to go up and most buyers want more features and tech, not less.

Does it make sense for Chevy to Scrap the refresh ? I mean it probably has been done before by chevy ,but wouldn't it be like giving up on the 6th gen? I doubt there would be a 7th gen for at least two years . I believe a refresh now would just put more money in there pockets and pave the way to the 7th gen.
