Was considering GT350 - what was I thinking???

Hi everyone. I am in the market for a 'fun' car as my last car (2014 Maserati Ghibli SQ4) was leased and I turned it in late last year. I went to the Auto Show here in Boston this past weekend and saw the Mustang GT350 and thought it looked nice. I came home and started doing research on it and that V8 sounds amazing and the Shelby GT version looks nice. I was seriously considering the GT350 - until I came across a YouTube video comparing the GT350 with the Camaro ZL1.

As soon as I saw the black Camaro ZL1 I fell in love. It just looked AMAZING!!. And 650HP vs. the GT350 is no comparison. I know that they are coming out with the GT500 at some point, but that doesn't change my decision.

My first car was a 67 Mustang convertible with a 289 - loved that car. But after that I bought an 88 Camaro IROC-Z Convertible with a 5.0 and 6 speed manual. So I am a Chevy guy at heart. How I was ever considering the GT350 and not the Camaro at first is beyond me - but I am back to my senses.

Thanks for all the info on this forum regarding the ZL1. I will be picking one up soon and looking forward to active member of this forum.

Lotta subjectiveness on this here forum considering where we are... but they are both great cars. I don't think you'd be disappointed with either.

I have yet to see someone choose a GT350 (even the R) over the ZL1. Back when I was searching I was looking for a car on the next level up from Mustang GTs and SS Camaros. So my choices were the GT350, GT350R, ZL1, HC, Z06, and a used Viper or used ZR1. I even made a list. After looking at all the performance aspects I found myself putting the Shelby all the way on the bottom. I figured that I would settle for one if I could not get one of the others. Turns out I didn't have to settle. While the Shelby is adored by many Mustang fans, for me it just does not have enough performance to be in the big leagues or to deserve the money that all the heavy hitters bring in. I don't think the Shelby is a match at all for the ZL1 despite a similar MSRP. If you want performance then the ZL1 is the better choice for sure.

With that said, if you're deadset on getting the manual trans then maybe consider the ZL1 1LE. That is the way I would have gone if I wanted the M6 trans.

That's awesome! I sold my IROC-Z vert about 8 years ago - unfortunately. But coming back to the family!

i hope i dont get labeled as a "troll" for this... but i picked the 350. i was set on getting a zl1 and finally located a 350 to test drive... and from the moment i pressed the button i was sold... the sound, the 6sp, the control is all part of the driving experience for me, its 100% a "drivers" car. the zl1 was BEAUTIFUL as well and i liked just about everything about it but when you see a 350 you know its different... when you see a zl1 unless you see the hood, it looks just like an SS.

again, not trying to start anything, these are both amazing cars and we are lucky to have choices that are amazing and just a little more amazing depending on who you ask!
