Start Car In First Gear Or Neutral? M6
I was browsing through the gm official catalogue on the app, and found this. Stating that the car should always be started in 1st gear. I’ve always started mine in neutral. What do you guys think?

Cranking the car in Neutral is fine.
Putting the car motion, 1st gear is preferred, but not required. Just a war of words ! CD |

As the above poster indicated, it sounds like that Q&A is referencing starting the car into motion. Since you have to press the clutch in to start the car, there's no difference whether you start in neutral or any gear.

I agree, poster is poorly worded and refers to taking off from a stop

It's not talking about starting your engine but setting off, using higher gears causes more clutch wear as well as higher engine loads at low rpms but this big an engine it's not so dangerous as a smaller engine (lspi)

We've all had our "moments" SSeiSS! And you just made my day! So thanks.
The best one I can remember of my own was when KTM first started importing their SuperDuke motorcycle to the U.S. To do some basic maintenance you needed a 12mm Allen wrench socket. I looked high and low- finally ordered one off the net and then raised cane on an enthusiast's KTM website. KTM's are made in Austria and so this website was primarily visited by guys in the U.K. at that time. The first reply to my rant suggested I check the INCLUDED tool kit on the bike, where I found a very nice 12mm. I still can't show my face in the United Kingdom! P.S. I also start in neutral but with clutch still depressed to the floor! Last edited by Ventmaster; 12-27-2017 at 10:25 PM. |
