17+ ZL1 questions

What was the deciding factors on going with the smaller blower and the TQ management settings as they seem to be limiting the cars true 1/4mile potential.( At least compared to the HC) I love my ZL1 and been waiting for the 50th anniversary to buy a ZL1, but always have those issues bothering me.

I see there is a GM performance "100 Octane" tune for the ZO6, but not the ZL1, why not? In fact, why not make the car e85 ready?

Thanks and thanks for finally bringing back a blue that reminds me of the first gen Lemans blue

Good question, I'm looking forward to the answer to this. If it's okay, may I add, if you could of changed or tailored any aspect of the LT4 for the application in the ZL1, what would it be? I know the ZL1's drag racing ability was of importance in the design of the ZL1, I personally think a bit more power would of done the ZL1 some good to compete with the Hellcat, which in some cases seems to still have the edge when it comes to straight line speed.

As far as what you guys accomplished with the engine you had at your disposal (the LT4), Bravo, fantastic job. Seems you guys managed to keep the temperatures in check much better than in the ZO6.

I would think most of us would have gladly paid $1-2k more for the car had it come with a larger blower. So cost should not have been a factor.

The small blower was probably done for the same reasons as the bad old days. The Corvette is the halo car and has to be top dog in performance.

If GM gave the ZL1 the LT5 with the larger blower, then the upcoming ZR1 would be diminished in many performance aspects not to say what it would do to the current Z06 model.

In my opinion, the new ZR1 deserved something a lot more special than just another pushrod V8 with a blower on it. A modern, direct injected, DOHC, VVT, 32V V8 would have been my dream engine for that model.

It would have kept the "LT5" designation true to its original marketing heritage instead of becoming just another pushrod V8 with a blower on it. As a side benefit, it would have allowed the ZL1 to grow in performance with the LT4 while keeping a safe comfortable distance between it and the ZR1.

Unfortunately, GM has never been regarded as making very many good long-term decisions.

Probably the biggest complaint by most is the limited tune to get a decent 60ft.

We're currently working on 1.7L Blower Porting Stages doing R&D with real world results for each Stage! Cost vs Result is proving to be a great addition in conjunction with a build package or stand alone! No problem going bigger at all but if you don't want to spend the big bucks for a new supercharger its going to be a great in between option. The Whipple 2.9L and now Maggie has a new 2.6L on the way! Excited to see the results form the new Maggie when it becomes available!!! ProCharger is also another way to go...... the aftermarket is just starting to catch up to our LT4's with options. Lots of great stuff coming up!!!

Let us know if we can answer any questions for you!
Best Regards,
Robert@JDP Sales
