Just my thoughts, I'd like to see a z28 with the new 1le zl1 features minus the blower. Keep it at 500 hp ish n/a with the wider wheels, more aero and the upgraded suspension things of that sort. I know it wouldn't be likely due to the fact gm won't have more power than the stingray but I think it would be a cool alternative to the actual zl1 1le

I think they might debut their new DOHC engine line in the Z/28, and I hope they developed a 427 for the Z as well as a replacement for the LS7 Crate motor. Get it spinning to 7000 and hook it up to a 10-speed. 550-575hp and that ZL1 1LE body would be a killer combo, especially if they work some weight reduction magic. 3500 lbs. sounds about right

Can someone explain to me why Z28 fans want LESS horsepower in an engine than what is already available?

Weight Balance Supercharging makes a lot more heat in the engine bay. The LT4 weighs more. It puts the weight in the front and up higher.

Not to mention the cost and weight of cooling for the LT4 and its torque curve. A higher rpm motor is better with higher gear transmissions. The LT4 doesn't spin that fast and is therefore better off with a manual than the 10-speed whereas a 7500+rpm DOHC motor would take advantage of the 10-speed.
Less weight over the front axle means better steering response and allows a car to carry more speed through turns. Gutting a ZL1 1LE and dropping in a DOHC 427 would make for a better handiling and more responsive car with reduced brake distances and temperatures, and the car could fly through turns better than anything on the market. Did anyone mention that every Z/28 is N/A? |

You mention less weight, but do you think that a dohc 7.0 would already weigh more than an ohv di 6.2? The 5.0 coyote is already physically larger than the ls3 6.2. I get that larger doesn't necessarily mean more weight, especially when you take into consideration the extra cooling/fluids, but I wonder too how much weight is really being saved at the end?

A DOHC 427 would probably weigh more than the LT4.

With the weight being up high due to the valve train.

You could make that same statement about every Camaro built before 2012.
