Probably but hard to say. If (still not convinced) it loses a true and honest 200 lbs plus gains 15 hp should be a good .3-.5 tenths quicker across the board. And the 8 speed auto should really move out. Worse can scenario 440hp 12.7 with the 8 speed auto shouldn't be too far off the norm. Manuals can be all over the place...
The car may have trouble with the scat pack if it only has 440hp... Would be very close. The car needs at least 450hp to be top dog. But I'm just guessing on a lot of things... Very hard to estimate everything at this point given all the variables. |

Note: if you read the "memo" http://jalopnik.com/leaked-memo-answers-all-the-2016-camaro-questions-gms-a-1704765341
It states "estimated" power and torque for all engines, concerns me on one hand (why doesnt GM have its power numbers hammered down yet? thats what most of us really care about) on the other hand, they probably expected that information to get leaked so they can come out tomorrow at the REAL event with "hey, heres the power numbers; check, mustang" drop mic |

Gm Underrated the ls1 when both camaro and vette first had them so maybe it's the case here too, gotta wait till someone dynos one and we how much power it really makes

I thought it had been pretty well established that the SAE ratings were more or less "correct" and that the LS1s were not SAE rated

Basically all motors that undergo the voluntary test are certified to make within 1% of its rating witnessed by both an independent engineer from sae as well as the given manufacturer. |

440 or whatever number was leaked is just a estimate. We know the power of the LT1 and I can say for a fact it wasn't detuned for the Camaro.

Over the years I've learned nothing is set in stone with a release. I'm kind of a glass half empty guy with these issues concerning camaro. Prepare for the worst and if it's better just a bonus lol. I'm going to favor the car regardless because I'm a GM fan. |

Even at 440/450, which we know it's higher, it will be faster than the Challenger SRT8 and Mustang GT. So it will be faster than 12.7. I think a GT is at 12.8 and a SRT at 12.5 (spare me the Mr. X got 12.2 in his srt comment, talking norms here.)

At 3700-3750 lbs if it achieves that it will beat a new gt on average but be very close to a scat pack r/t or srt-8. Just going off of what all the cars are known to run and the differences in estimated power and weights with the new models. Like I said tough to call. One things for sure at 440hp it won't have a definitive edge. |

I posted this in the other thread. Just wondering if this was just a bad memo in facts to begin with.
That's a good catch. This makes me wonder if the memo just hadn't been through the fact check team, or just made up. This could explain the 440hp too. We will know tomorrow hopefully.

Mark my words.. FORD will get the last laugh, AGAIN, just like they did with the GT500/ZL1.
We drop in 440HP and just watch them announce 460+ for the Mustang a week later just like that! Thought they weren't protecting the Vette, MY ASS! Car should have came with 475 to offset Fords move that's going to happen real FAST! -bobby

But I do agree it would be bad ass if GM threw in something over 460hp and really shocked everyone. |

I'm pretty sure GM never said they weren't protecting the vette. They said they weren't protecting it when it came to the Z/28. But not in general.

Exactly. And I'll never believe otherwise until I see it in a base SS.
Just matching the output of the corvette in the base car would be a welcome surprise imo. My honest guess off of typical GM is 450 hp which would still land it close enough to the 1% sae variation. Just like last gen with 430hp vette and 426hp camaro. If I was betting on this I'd go with 450hp. |
