Four cylinder mode

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to the forum and fairly new to the Gen6 Camaro. I have question regarding the four cylinder mode. It appears that the car never goes into this mode, and stays on V8 mode at all times. I had a 2014 Corvette and the symbol would change between V4 and V8 modes, and could also feel it most of the time when this would happen. While I am quite happy that it stays in V8 mode all the time, I am also very curious why? Any thoughts? I have tried all four drive modes, and this has made no difference.

The Camaro is a 2018 SS automatic and currently has about 9K miles on it. I am the second owner.

Thanks!

If it’s been tuned then AFM was probably turned off.

I believe Track mode keeps it in v8 mode but the other modes switch (might be wrong here)

You’ve been checking the trip or mpg screen watching the v8 on the page, when it switches to v4 it’s a green tint over it

Yes, it never goes green just stays gray. Plus I don't feel the subtle jolt either when it switches from one to the other.

If it has been tuned, does this mean it can't be tuned again? This was the main reason I was asking this question. I want to be able to have the transmission tuned in the near future.

Thanks!

First, look at the OBD port for a plug-in module.

Second, staying in V8 mode isn't a bad thing. There are a lot of people with bent lifters associated with the V4 mode.

My car was one, 10k miles and the lifter failed

To OP, if it’s not tuned and nothing in the OBD then something’s up with the car. It switches to v4 on cruising and on slight acceleration. It’ll swap to v8 at any opportunity to

I have the Range device on my truck for this purpose, but there is nothing in plugged into the OBD port on the Camaro. Guess that I can only assume that the previous owner had it tuned. I am pleased that it doesn't go into the V4 mode. I just hope this doesn't create a problem for future tuning?

Thanks for replies, this has confirmed my suspicions.

I did Trifecta tune for that purpouse, but in the case of Trifecta V4 can be activated in tour mode but not anymore in sports mode, probably you have a different tune.

Hopefully the previous tuner didn’t lock the tune so that your tuner can update the ECU and TCU for you. You should be able to run a “difference” comparison between your current tune and a stock tune with HP Tuners software. That might help you understand what’s been changed. It’s possible that the previous owner had the TCU unlocked and tuned too.
