AC Recharge questions

Can anyone tell me where I recharge the AC from? I can only find the high pressure input for the AC. I recently replaced my condenser myself because a rock cracked it and the dealership wanted like 1,500 to replace it and refill it. I'm now trying to find out where the input is to recharge the AC with Freon but I can't find it. Couldn't find anything online either. Pictures are best but a typed out explanation on where it is will suffice. Thanks guys!

You need to vacuum out the system before you charge it. Also, you need to change the accumulator/drier and measure the oil in the old one so you can add fresh oil to the new one.

Yeah i'm just going to take it into a AC shop and have them vacuum it and fill it.

I think you’re incorrect in type of refrigerant and have r-1234yf since your car is a 2018. I just had dealer replace a cracked AC line and mine was r-1234yf. I learned they started using in Camaros in 2017 and sucks because it makes it so home mechanics can’t do recharge......or at least makes it much more difficult. Most likely reason the recharge port dosent match as they different ports depending on refrigerant.

Good luck and hope I’m wrong, because the yf refrigerant is much more expensive as well.

My 17 is 1234yf. Pretty sure an 18 would be the same.

I am not advocating for this but there are people out there changing to 134a, they make adapter fittings and the pressures/temps are very close to the same.

Thought I had seen something that gm swapped all their cars to 1234yf in 18 and had a soft roll out in 17 on some models.

Thats news to me that they are swapping over to 134, ill have to look into that. Last a/c class I took spoke of "dangers" when doing that. Doesnt mean it cant be done.

I would love to have a step by step with the results. Because here in Thailand, 134a is still what is being sold in brand new 2024 vehicles, all of them. I need to recharge my system after my Interchiller install, and this would be the perfect time to do it. Changing over is definitely not illegal here. In fact, I can’t even buy YF without importing it….. I think it’s because 134a’s performance is about 15% better from what I read. And here in Thailand, it’s really hot. That’s probably the reason Thailand has not switched over from 134a and it doesn’t look like they will anytime soon.

I went through this with my 2018 Grand Cherokee, I went out and bought a can of recharge, the 134a and 1234yf fittings are actually close in size, it was driving me nuts until I googled it lol

Not saying it's the right thing to do, but I would convert it over to R134a. The oils are compatible, and you can get adapter fittings / vacuum pump / and manifold gauges to do the work yourself for less than it costs to have someone refill with the YF stuff. Not to mention the 134a runs about 3-4 degrees cooler, plus is way cheaper to refill down the road. This has been my experience anyway.

Video shows the recharge, but not the best visual of the ports he is using for high and low side.

This video shows the two ports. The high side one is weird, as it actually looks like it tee's off the low side line. Looks like a weird fitting that bulges around the low pressure line. Maybe someone can explain the logic in that:

Best picture I could find. You can see the skinny liquid line coming off the bulge area:
