Maybe they heard that Chevy small blocks were nicknamed Mouse Motors and big blocks were nicknamed Rat Motors. They just feel at home there is all.

Wth, I didn't even know rats would try to live in a car, ugh, now that I think about it, I seen a mouse jump out the underside of a few cars at work. So they might be living there?!

Spring loaded trap and peanut butter. That way you know if you got them... Poison always seems like a bad idea to me. Never know where they are going to crawl away to and die...

Some of them are pretty smart. I had A couple in my utility room and set out traps. They actually pushed the trap under my washing machine and then there wasn't room for it to operate and ate the bait.

D Con works best. It eats away there insides and doesn't leave enough to stink. I've used it in the shop for years.

As an insurance adjuster I did an appraisal & claim on a new Mercedes. Those critters ate the main harness on the firewall- $6,000 later the owner got his car back. I've got Bounce Dryer Sheets in my Camaro plus two plug in electrical devices in the garage that I got at Home Depot. So far, so good.

Warmth and shelter probably attracted them. What we do for our ranch vehicles is leave the hoods open when we park them. The rats want a dark place for their nests. They won't make a nest if the hood is open and light is shining. So, you could possibly leave your hood open with the light on at night. Works for our vehicles anyways. Problem is that the rats will find another place to live. Any other place HAS to be better than your car though.
