As the CAFE Standards tighten over the next several years, I am expecting we will see some radical changes, size, weight, performance and drivetrains will change a lot.
I'm still thinking, eventually we will see a hybrid powered Camaro at some point Itime. As this technology improves, it may not be so bad. Witness the Infiniti M35H. Pretty potent for a Hybrid sedan.

Stock 1le will destroy a 5.0 with every package and get real close to the gt500 with 200+ more hp. Straight line, different story that's why we have steering wheels, so we can turn in a race |

Back to the original point of the thread, the new gen mustang actually gained weight over the previous model. This combined with promises the camaro will lose weight in the 6th gen the camaro MAY weight less than a mustang. What dimension did we slip into?

Hey congrats on your new car! I hate jealousy. You'll get negative comments from time to time on the forum, don't get discouraged, lots of good info here. You can save some weight by simply running a 1/4 to a 1/2 tank instead of full. About 8 pounds a gallon. Drop those pancake mufflers too and get some MRT 2.0's, that will shave another 30ish pounds and sound better Great lookign ride... enjoy!

Bad news for Mustangs. I spoke to a Ford salesman last night and he confirmed the 2015 Mustang weighed about 200 pounds more for each model.
Welcome to weight watchers 5.0s. So Ford is beefing up the base HP so stock for stock it will still be faster. All this makes me wonder if the 6th gen Camaro will be any lighter than the current model. At least the LT1 will keep it in the running with the new 5.0s.

My Camaro seats as many people as my 1997 Buick Riviera. GM makes one sports car, and it's a Corvette

Fifth Gen Camaro 4th Gen Camaro 1969 Camaro 2013 Impala Wheelbase 112.3 in 101.1 in 108 in 111.7 in Length 190.4 in 193.5 in 186 in 201.3 in Width 75.5 in 74.1 in 74 in 73 in Height 54.2 in 51.2 in 51.1 in 58.9 in When compared to the outgoing 4th gen and the 1969 Camaro, it is 3 inches taller. It also has a much longer wheel base and is about an inch and a half wider than both. While it is shorter than the outgoing 4th gen, it is 4 inches longer than the 1969. Compare it to the new Impala which is the flagship fullsize car of the Chevrolet lineup. The Camaro is 2.5 inches wider and has a longer wheelbase.

That said, the '69 Camaro was not a big car when it was new and is not a particularly big car now. A longer wheelbase alone does not make a car larger, however. Things like an inch and a half increase in width...that's merely 3/4 inch wider per side. The 5 Gen is in practical terms marginally larger than a '69. We are very used to smaller cars being termed 'mid size' in the 21st century.

i am amazed at the size of my 13 2LT vert when it sits in garage next to my 98 firebird t-top. the camaro just seems huge all around, height, width, and a little on lenth. i know the camaro has 19inch wheels vs. my firebird 16s, but the weight difference is amazing, 4000 pds on my vert vs. 3400 on the firebird.

Forget all those rumors about the Gen6 Camaro dropping 200+ pounds. I'm *pretty* sure that 6th gen Camaro will weigh very close (within 50 lbs) of the current car, if you compare V8 to V8.
Why do I think the Gen6 Camaro will be about the same weight as the gen5? Look at the C7 Corvette. The redesigned 2014 base Corvette went from a steel frame to aluminum, used all sorts of lightweight (read "expensive") materials, and STILL ended up almost exactly the same weight as the old steel-framed 2013 C6. Even the new C7z *gained* a good amount of pounds when compared to the old C6z (no one will say for sure, except to hint that it will likely be even heavier than the old ZR1's 3390 curb). Keep in mind, the C7 Corvette base price *starts* at $53,000. The Camaro has to come in at less than HALF the Corvette's price point ($24,000 base is a good guess for 2016), and thus cant use all the lightweight tricks that the Corvette can afford. Unless the 6th gen Camaro is going to be *substantially* smaller than the current Camaro (highly unlikely -- most sources say it will be about the same size), the 6th gen Camaro will be about the same weight as the 5th. They're def carrying a lot of uneeded weight, luckily mods fix that. Every mod I make cuts weight, adds power/better handling.
and I've always considered the Camaro more of a Muscle/Pony car than a Sports car.
