16SS to a 17-18 ZL1
Hi everyone,
I am considering trading in my SS and upgrading to a ZL1. How many of you have made the switch? Was it worth it in your opinion? I feel like I am fairly young to the car world as only being 21. Just looking for opinions and or comments. |

I've thought about the same. Can't afford it, especially since I just bought the Miata.

I went from a FBO 5th Gen SS LS3 to my 17 ZL1 A10 and it was indeed worth it. I think you will be more than pleased with the performance.

I upgraded from my 2016 SS to a used low miles 2017 ZL1 back last month and yes it was worth it to me! I planned to upgrade to a SS 1LE from my 2SS in the summer but the Z came along on Cars.com and I couldn’t refuse the deal for a 2 year old ZL1.

Depends on what you are looking for. I have had quicker cars, and there isn't much chance to really enjoy them legally, but they are fun to just have, and know you can if you want to

I had a 17'SS and loved it! But when I saw the ZLE, I knew I had to have it, it is absolutely worth it! It's amazing how much more car it really is!

Thought about upgrading to a ZL1 vert but I just could not justify spending the $$$ when my car sits 330+ days a year. Instead I traded in my 2016 Traverse daily driver for a left over 18 Yukon XL.

Went from 70' RS to 14' SS to 15' Z/28 and now to the 19' ZL1 in 5 years. Was it worth it? For me, I have always been into performance cars and have been since the 60's. I have had my share since then and todays era of performance is the best I have ever seen. This IS the best muscle car era and probably the last. If you can afford it, you will not be disappointed.

You must be a rich 21. If not, don’t saddle yourself with a $900 car note.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm not rich by any means but with low % financing. I would have a little bit of negative equity. With my down payment I'm looking at like a 650 note. Currently paying 425 which I was comfortable with at the time. Just wanted to make sure it was worth it for my stretch in payments.

Unless i do a track day at VIR there is nowhere i can turn my 455hp loose without risking my life, license and or jail time.....going into negative equity for even more power i couldnt use legally just doesnt make sense..... just my .02.... everyone has to steer their own boat

Yeah insurance is one of my big worries. The negative equity would be covered by my down payment. I could just apply that money to my current loan and have positive equity and then some. Maybe I'm just being young and dumb.
I do appreciate all replies. I'm talking with a local dealer about a 2017 ZL1 with 7k miles and CPO. They started at $52,500, then shot the price up the $54k, then dropped down to $51,800 and now its currently listed at $53,829. They do not seem willing to work off their now current ask price. |
