Where are the Single Point of Failures? Try to eliminate them.
Ok, you are driving somewhere on a long road trip and your car stops running. If it is the fuel pump in the tank or direct fuel pump up under the intake you are hosed. In my Gen 4 Z28 I cut an access hole to be able to replace the fuel pump on the road in under 30 minutes. Where the heck is the fuel pump tank access hole on the Gen 6? Doesn't exist! On my Gen 4, I sometimes carry an extra ECM, MAF, EGR, Smog parts, distributor, coil, water pump, heater hoses and gaskets. On the Gen 6 fortunately some of these parts are not used. Do you know where the Crank Sensor is on the new LT1? It is on the block, ride side. So where are the Single Point of Failures and how can they be eliminated? Come on Chev engineers, you can do better than all the crappy coolant plastic parts on an SS! I will replace them with metal parts and they will never fail.

Wow! Amazing that you think you can add a part that will never fail.
In any modern car if you are carrying around the parts list you do it would probably go down as the worst car of all time. Plastic parts, by the way, are NOT any indication of a part that will fail. Plastics and composites are often a BETTER solution for cost, weight and performance. Now if you want to push the engine to the right in the stress - strength curve, you can simply start adding money to both the cost of the car and cost of any replacement parts. You are misguided to think GM engineers aren't aware of what it takes to meet the requirements in a modern performance car. They do.

Obviously I don't need to have a part never fail but the goal should be to reduce the Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). If you like to spend $1000 to replace a fuel pump, go right ahead. I don't like that cost! It is not ok with me. Even Hondas and BMWs have fuel pump access holes, many times under the rear seat.

OP - between this post and your one on run flat tires I get a kick out of your Mad Max view of the world. "Be ready for anything. Carry everything you own with you."
I'm of the opposite mind. I carry no spare parts with me for any car I own or have owned. After thousands and thousands of miles with several different vehicles built since the 90's I've never had any of the road side failures you've mentioned. Now my 60's and 70's cars weren't so good.

I would hate to have your pessimistic views on life. If the Camaro is such a POS that requires you to carry all the replacement parts why did you buy another one? Also, replacing parts with metal parts will make the car a heavy POS like the Gen 4's were.
SMH I hope you're just trolling. |

If this car was 10 years old, i would carry a part or two on a road trip, but is brand new, get a spare tire and call it a fay.

I just make sure I have a quick detail spray and micro-fiber in case of bird shit. The clear on this car leaves much to be desired. But the performance more than makes up for it, in my opinion anyways.
