I don't think GM had a choice, with CAFE standards, etc. They have to build/sell some of these so that they can still offer the 6.2 & 7.0 L engines in high horsepower form.

I agree and I disagree.

Do I believe a Camaro is, at its core, a V8? Yes.

But I also think a turbo I-4 is a lot tougher than a V6, and they've made V6's for decades. If anything, I say get rid of the V6 altogether and keep the turbo I-4 and V8 models.

Wait and see, the v-8 will go bye-bye first. The twin turbo v-6 in the CTSV is putting out 464hp stock, and with a simple inter cooler upgrade I bet it's over 500, not sure though, does anybody know for sure?

Especially with the coming CAFE standards, unless they make some pretty great efficiency changes in the coming years, or fudge the average in other ways.

So you would rather have a 275hp turbo 4 over a 335hp v6 ? Really? If they eventually get rid of the v8 ( long time from now hopefully )you might regret wanting to get rid of the V6 .

I read in the forum that Chrysler has slated the v-8 hemi's last production run is in 2019. I don't think that the 6.2 and especially the 7.0 will last much longer than that because of the cafe standards. They may decide to F/I a smaller cubic inch model. The stock turbo 4 is already quicker than a stock gen 5 v-6.

depends how it's done. 240sx's with twin turbo 4's are highly sought after, and very fast cars. every bit capable of smoking a v8. i wouldn't hate on something just because it's a 4

Jeez, sounds like you are one of those guys that think the only real Camaros are ones that have a V8 in it. That's ridiculous. Real Camaros have V8's, V6's and now turbo 4 cyl's.

I think dropping the V6 would be a bad idea though. Not everyone wants a high strung 4 cyl turbo with piped in exhaust noises or the big honking 455 hp V8. Having the N/A V6 placed in the middle of the engine lineup is a good idea. After all, it is making 335 hp in the 6th gen, 60 hp more than the LTG 4 cyl.

Sure, the turbo 4 could possibly make that much power or even more with the boost turned up. However, not everyone who buys the turbo is going turn up the boost like a madman. Especially those folks who are concerned about keeping the powertrain warranty.

Just my $.02.
