Does the Performance Air Intake come with a new tune?
I thought I read or saw a video where the Chevrolet Performance 6th Gen Camaro Performance Air Intake comes with an ECU reflash to maximize the effects. However, I don't see that mentioned in the parts catalog. Does anyone have a link to the info about the reflash or am I mis-remembering?

They do NOT come with an ECU reflash as far as I know. ECU is smart enough to realize more airflow and adapt to it granted it won't be maximizing the hell out the airflow compared to a tune with the intake.

The GMPP SRI for the Sonic includes a calibration flash. I suspect a Camaro GMPP SRI would also include one.

If it doesn't come with a reflash, it's not gonna do jack. I hope it does...

The gist I have gotten about modern engine management systems is that cold air intakes don't make as much of a difference in performance. They make a great sound but the ECM adjusts and there's not much of a power difference.

I was at the dealership yesterday looking at the new 16 (which I like better in certain ways). I asked the sales rep about the policy for their dealership when it comes to mods and tune.
He said different dealerships have different warranty agreements with GM, which GM is getting tighter with every MY. He said, if any modification is done to the car even as small as a CAI (with or without tune), GM *can* void your warranty. He said, we report to GM and they tell us *IF* we can honor the warranty or not. Our service dept. does not make that decision, GM does. He said, if GM flags you in their system and you take the car to another dealership, they have to follow GM's policy. |

Federal law protects the consumer. (Magnusson Moss Warranty Act) Chevy would have to prove the modification caused the failure. It is that simple. The dealer can say anything they want. The law is the law.
Second, the GM performance CAI is fully warrantied by GM. |

They can prove anything, if you have changed the car, I know because I went through hell with them. And no freaking law was behind me, because I had moded the car. |

You guys mind if I ask what the nature of your warranty claim was on the modded engines or drive trains?

I had transmission trouble. Initially I was denied claim due to several engine mods. It was eventually covered.
Different vehicle... I had trouble codes popping up unrelated to the supercharger I installed. However, it would have been easy to claim there was connection. Had no issues there and was expecting a fight. |
