Will a twin turbo setup fit in the gen 6 SS?
Will a twin turbo setup fit in the gen 6 SS?
On a side note, how strong is the 3.6 block? And how far can the displacement safely be increased? Could you (twin or single) turbo it after adding forged internals like the imports do 6's? Just daydreaming today |

The CTS and XTS V-sports, and ATS-V have twin turbo versions of the the V6.

That's true. I wonder what would need to change on the naturally aspirated v6 and have it make similar power (say 420hp), and one step further, will it ever make anywhere close to modded Nissan GTR power. |

I had my LFX to 647 RWHP/726 RWTQ on twin turbos. That was with stock crank and valve train. I lowered the CR to 10:1 with forged pistons and did forged rods as well. I don't see why you couldn't get similar or better numbers out of the LGX. 420 crank hp would be a piece of cake.

mcsoul....420 crank HP is probably the very lowest you should expect from a decent after market turbo setup on these V6s. The LFX was pretty much safe on stock internals to around 450 - 500rwhp. Past that you'll want to beef up for sure. Gretchen's car was the most powerful V6 ever on the 5th gen forums...the car was capable of 10 second 1/4 mile runs. If anyone knows what it takes to take a V6 to supercar levels he does...but for someone just looking for to get around 400+ rear wheel horse power, that shouldn't be too crazy.

At first glance, the new LGX has a much better "out of the box" intake manifold, and based on what I gather from the intake port placement/angle on the intake, the same could be realized based on the heads... They claim 335 out of the new engine.
Based on the gmpowertrain.com website, the new LGX weighs 10 to 20 lbs more than the LFX engine it replaces... Must be the wider bore spacing hence, longer block/heads, DOD technology. But more displacement. Most of the time you see auto manufacturer's rounding up for engine size, but in the case of the LGX it looks like they are rounding down. LGX = 3649cc / 222cid... Rounding up for the old LFX is 3564cc / 217cid... Both still a 3.6L. Makes you think... |
