Free Oil Changes??
I was telling my gf that I needed to go get an oil change and she told me that it would be free at the dealerships since it's a 2017 car year?? Is that true or is she tripping?

Probably depends on the dealership offer, but as for me I got six free oil changes for the first 3 years. Another local dealership offers free oil changes for life! Check your itimized bill of sale. Or call your sales guy.

I was given 5 free oil changes from GM, valid for 3-years from the date of purchase. Going to use my first one in 3 weeks.

2 is standard new from the factory. Anything else after that is going to be on the dealer or the salesman. I get lifetime oil changes from my salesman as long as I own the car.

By default GM gives you 2 free oil changes that you need to use within the first 2 years. 2016 Camaro owners got the same thing.
You can go to any dealer to redeem that because they charge GM for the oil changes and all they need to do is look up your VIN. Additionally, some dealerships may offer additional free oil changes, that you can check when you talk to the dealer. |

Does the free oil change only apply with the dealer that you bought the car from?

It's a GM program. You can take your car to any dealership to have it done. Same with warranty work, even though some dealers might refuse to do any work to your car if you didn't buy it from them.

What everyone else is saying is correct, you can go to any dealer because those 2 free oil changes are from GM so they get paid by GM for parts/labor like they would if they had to do a warranty repair.

They aren't free.
