Wider tires

Thinking about getting wider rear tires, i like the look and keeps the car planted better when launching. Any ideas on which tires size to go with and im guessing ill have to get rid of the OEM rims ?

I have 305/30/20s on 20x 11 wheels in the rear and 285/30/20 on 20 x10 wheels on the front. I think Chevy should have done a better job with wheel and tire sizes from the start. 245s on the front is a joke and 275 in the back a joke also. Chevy should have had wider wheels to start with and never put anything less than a 295 in the rear. I have no rubbing issues or anything with about 9500 miles on the wheels and tires.

My setup:

Wheels:
MRR M228 (2015 Z-28 Replicas)
Front – 20 x 9
Rear – 20 x 10

Tires:
Nitto NT05
Front – 275/35/20
Rear – 305/30/20

Ride Height: Stock, Not Lowered

ZERO rubbing or traction issues with my stone-stock LT1 A8 Camaro.

But, NT05 tires are LOUD if that kind of thing is an issue for you.

GM has to make a vehicle for the masses, if they ran the ZL1/1LE tire sizes from the factory on every SS then you push the SS slightly out of being a economical performance car. Decent 305/285 tires are around $500 more per set than the 285/245 set the SS comes with.

I have been pricing replacement sets for my 1LE and it looks like I will be around the $2k range for a decent set of tires, most SS owners would have a stroke if they had to pay $2k every 10k-15k miles for tires.

This is discussed in the tire section. 305 's in the rear is the widest.

I couldn't find the thread that talked about it, but I thought 305s could rub a wiring harness and destroy it. I think some guy that lives in the desert had that issue.

Cali is indeed a desert! 305/35 will rub through, 305/30 will be fine.

Wont front wheel spacers fix that.?
I think the gap with 30 will be to much if not lowered

I am sure there will be 325 tire and 12x19" wheel offerings soon enough... considering the ZL1 1LE is prowling around now. Although you could just do 315 R888s or R888Rs with 5mil spacers if tread wear doesn't concern you too much

Hello,

This is my set up with the 1LE rims that I ordered through GM. The dealer picked out the sizes for me and said that these will not rub when making very hard U-Turns. It's possible to go wider, as evidenced by the reports of others and that GM also uses wider tires but those are Good Years and not all tires are made the same despite the use of similar numbers. I love the Nitto Tires. The rears are slightly taller than stock (which are actually smaller than the fronts when stock).

Kindest,

Donner
