Online, It seems that the manual transmission (as a unit) retails for about $4000, and the automatic (8 speed) retails for $2800...why is that?

Auto is a GM unit...manual is Tremec. Probably a large difference in initial cost and supplier cost.

PS: I have NEVER owned an automatic.

I have a manual and I Love it. Herd the auto was a monster and shifts super quick. If anyone wants to show me how that auto shifts in person, I'm game!
