It's a controversial subject but I personally believe you can drive it the way you want and a hard as you want but wait until the engine is up to full temperature so everything is in proper clearance so there isn't any bearing issues or hot spots in the cylinder walls. Just my 2 cents!

Does Chevrolet recommend a break in period?

Break-in procedure attached. If you didn't keep it below 4k and vary rpms for the first 500 miles there's a risk of your engine burning oil for the remainder of its life.

yes, chevy does recommend a 1500 mile break in period, it's in the owners manual somewhere along with more details. Someone on here might know where in the manual.

I have a 2018 Camaro 2SS Redline Edition which I bought last week. I'l be taking it easy during the break in time for sure.

This will be my 3rd brand new vehicle, the others a 1998 Ford and a 2016 Dodge Ram Sport I broke them in easy as well. Never had any problems with either vehicle.

Break in? Ha, I broke mine in on the way home. It was fast, its fun and I wouldn't have it any other way. Its really fast now and in the spring it will just be killer. Break in, it just a term, one I just didn't understand. LOL

Pretty much the same for all manufacturers, and it makes sense to limit the rpm and that's not hard to do with this kind of torque, but to vary the RPM all the time while driving? That's ridiculous, not possible. They should run the engine at the factory and get this done before you take delivery of the car.

If you plan on keeping your car a long time, like me, follow the recommended break-in procedure. What happens to your engine at 100,000 miles is directly traced to how you break it in. I followed the procedure and changed my oil at 500 miles, then 1500 miles, now I simply change it when the oil life indicator comes up.

Now, if you goosed it a time or two under 1500 miles I don't think you've done any harm. But to live in the high rev range and "drive it like you stole it" during the break in period is just asking for smoking and leaking at high mileage.

Now, if you think you'll be getting rid of it before it hits even 70,000 miles, then by all means rip it up lol! Have fun!!

I beat the ever living **** out of my V6 and it runs much stronger than the brand new 5 mile odometer stock V6's at the dealership...

These cars love being driven hard.. as long as you're not STUPID when driving hard.. stupid entails, 3k RPM + pulls right after a cold start, not changing your oil, unecessary launches, peel outs from a dig, ect... Otherwise, you will be fine.

I usually remote start my vehicle and let her warm up while Im getting ready to go, even when its warm outside... so when I get outside she's ready to roll.
