OEM GY question
I'm flying out to the San Jose, CA area from The Phoenix area to pick up my "new to me" 2014 1LE. I need some real world advice from owners who have experience with the stock GY's at wear levels down to 2/32's. Here's the deal. Got the results of my pre-purchase inspection, performed by the local Chevy dealer who serviced the car. The report showed 4/32's on both fronts, 3/32 left rear, 2/32 right rear. Photo's I received from the seller showed no wear bars showing on the rear tires.
I have experience with these tires, but not down to 2/32. Due to time and tire availability in that immediate area (actually Watsonville, south of the Bay Area), I would prefer to wait and buy tires when I get home. I plan on driving straight back, approximately 600 miles, in dry conditions. Light rain is a possibility, and while it's not in the forecast, plan on waiting out any significant rain. My question is simply this. For those of you who have driven your cars with the tires at these wear levels, would you consider it relatively safe. I plan on staying below 80mph, no "performance" driving so to speak until I get to a safe, off highway area, or have new tires on there. Your experience and advice is appreciated.

2/32 us legally worn out. Definitely stay away from any standing water... and don't drive them if it's too cold (at any tread depth)

I think you should be fine taking it easy. I just bought a new set of bfg a/s and kept the front tires that were down to 2/32. The rears were worse and I was driving for a couple weeks, daily, until my new tires came in. Discount tire guys did say that 2:32 are pretty much drag radials starting depths, so rain will be nerve wrecking if heavy.

Those tires are scary on rainy roads when they are new. I'd recommend you replace them before driving back if at all possible. Your life is PRICELESS. Just my .02. Drive safe.

I've driven the stock tires in the rain and had no issues. Of course I was not driving aggressive at all and it was not through standing water or heavy rain.

Get new tires...
The GY are great on the track when warmed up but on cold days they are hockey pucks.... It's not worth it.

Thanks again for the input and advice. I contacted the nearest dealer and will be putting on at least new rears (since the fronts are at 4/32's), or all four.
