Here is the Cadillac ATS V paddle shifting. Gives an indication of shift speed in 8l90.

See 4:31 in video.

Sorry for the revival, but i'm surprised no one has mentioned this.

Downshift rev matching is necessary so as not to upset the chassis while braking for a corner. Otherwise front/rear loads change and possible to lose traction. In a 6mt, one uses a technique called heel/toe to do this. In an auto, it's up to the tcm/ecu programming to achieve the same.

Anyone comment on whether or not the a8 used in the camaro actually incorporates this function?

Every modern computer controlled automatic performs Rev matched downshifts.

Yep. Flip and blip, the throttle that is.

I've Never seen so much MIS-Information in a thread. Yes, The a8 does Rev-match on down shifts. Yes, Those paddles will allow up-down shifts when in Auto or Manual mode. Yes, Track Mode does shift quicker than touring Mode No, NOT ALL Automatics Rev match. Thank You!!!

What makes you think it doesn't? Just remember, smoothly downshifting is not the same as rev matching. It may not smoothly do it but the ECU does bump the throttle on it. Not all programming is equal.

^^Rpms took a while to increase. With actual rev matching, the rpm increase is very quick, otherwise it would defeat the purpose. In the kia it seemed that the engine rpm was catching up by way of the trans.

If it's taking a long time for the RPMs to increase then the trans physically shifted slow. Which would be what I would expect for one not really performance oriented. Basically your TC is uncoupled from the engine for a longer period of time than the 8L90 does. Resulting in a slow response in RPMs to the shift. Think of it this way, if the trans downshifted fast enough it would cause the car to unsettle without rev matching.
