I'm on my second crewcab LTZ the first one had the vortecmax and was really good,it got messed up and I got one with the 5.3 and I have some complaints about it but I still like it,I have thought seriously about trading for a Raptor but wanted to see the new trucks first and I think I would switch to GMC the next time around but I would like to see something Raptor like from GMC,and I'm wondering if Ford will keep producing the Raptor for 2014-15 as well as I would only consider trucks from GMC or Ford.

i wonder if there's a real need for GMC. i know the argument was to have them paired with Buick dealers (and pontiac when they were around)

Sad but true: There are GMC owners who would rather drive a Ford or Ram than a Silverado...!!

Pontiac's loss, in Canada, is the primary reason GM, several months this year, has been 3rd in Monthly sales. And in Canada, in the past, GMC Sierra out-Retailed Silverado...but not since the Pontiac stores disappeared end of '09.

Current-Gen GMT 900s have a slight-but-noticeable difference in front-end appearance...for a reason. The Silverado is "sleeker" (slimmer-wider through the grille), the Sierra more "squared-off". Appeals to two different potential buyers, broadening sales. Add in the unmatched Denali Packages, and suddenly you have an "uptown" truck...with an "uptown" margin.

The next-Gens seem to follow this, although the appearance differences are less pronounced at a glance. Can't wait to see 'em "in the flesh"...again...

Pontiac retention is still under 50% though (I think it was actually under 40 but I'm not positive). Saturn is on the order of about 25%. Hummer was somewhere in the middle, no clue on Olds. I'd say that GM would consider itself lucky if they retained more than half of GMC owners if they killed the brand, probably more like 1 in 3. If true, that would be in the neighbourhood of a quarter million lost sales for the company. A quarter million highly profitable sales.

I don't see a real difference. The last MY seemed to be a huge leap forward in design. This one....eh I suppose. I've always liked the GMCs better but it just looks like they stole some taurus headlights and placed them on it.

The interiors (minus the fake wood) look very nice though. But I can't help but think they whiffed again on another crucial offering.

I'm not crazy about the Silverado, just like I wasn't crazy about the previous one. My love stopped at the 2007 Classic (I had an '05 for two years).

Now, the GMC...when that hits the lots I'm running to town to molest one. I like it.

I like the corner step on the bed and the under rail LED lights are a great idea. I almost did that on my last truck.

As for 'its not really a redesign'. This is no different than the '04+ F150s. Even when they 'changed' in '09 they still look the same. Just as this does. Lets not even discuss the Ford Super Duty. They have been beating that body style to DEATH since the late 90s. Or Dodge with the Rams (2002 and up). IMO, this is no less a step up than any other manufacturer has offered. I'm looking forward to seeing some in person, and I REALLY want to see the specs on these new engines. Especially that LS based 4.3L V6.

I've always loved the blocky look to GM trucks. That's why I was disappointed with the new Colorado.

The trucks share underpinnings and powertrains. All you need to do is make some slight exterior changes between the two and create different packaging and options. Position one brand slightly upmarket of the other and voila, profit by the boatloads.
I totally agree, GMC makes money that is why they are still around.

GMC was the #10 best selling brand in North America last year. Not bad for a brand that sells only platform shared Trucks/SUV/Crossovers! I'm sure Ford wished they could have had that type of success with Mercury, especially in the later years.

Buick makes money too. Yes they were saved because of the Chinese market, but that in turn has lead to the resurgence in the U.S. market

Quote:
Making up nearly 35% of those sales, China is Buick's largest market, selling more there than even the United States. In 2007, General Motors sold over 330,000 Buicks in China, more than twice what they sold in the United States. In pre-World War II China, one in five cars was a Buick Buick is the leading vehicle brand in China.

In 2009, Buick sold 447,011 vehicles, an increase of 59.6 percent compared with the previous year.

In 2010, Buick’s sales in China rose 23.0% to a new high of 550,010 vehicles. That’s compared to 155,289 deliveries (+51.9%) in the USA in 2010.

Buick has sold over 3 million vehicles in China since 1999. The first million took eight years, the second took three years, and the third came in at only a year and a half.
