How would you mod with only $400

If you had a stock 2010 1LT and $400 to spend on mods what would get?

Well to be honest a varram cold air intake is about all you can do beside a under drive pulley,with out needing a tune. If you can save up more money get headers, tune and be good to go.If you can really save up do the varram cai and headers and tune you will gain a lot more power. Just do what you can afford.

I'd address the timing chain issues before doing anything else.

longevity mods being that your in a 7 year old v-6, catch can if not equipped, timing. engine cleaning internals..all maintentance as your most likely not looking for exterior all show mods. Or save to down pay a newer SS.

Good advise, IMO. If that's all you have to spend, put it toward the balance or maintenance.

Don't start down the path of modding your car if all you can swing is $400. Its a slippery slope once you get the ball rolling

I will add that if this is your daily, especially if it's your only car, keep in mind that almost every modification you make may reduce reliability just a little bit. Not all, but some.

Also keep in mind that many of the parts you need for simple maintenance are a little more expensive and labor intensive than a lot of the "normal" cars out there.

Someone mentioned a catch can. For a direct injected engine like yours, this is a big benefit as they tend to have carbon build up, or "coking" issues on the valves. At this point, it's probably already there, but a catch can will slow it from getting any worse.

Oil...this is huge on the VVT engines. Don't let the oil life monitor get down to 10%. These things have a way of making oil magically disappear.

Then there's things like spark plugs, coil packs. In order to change these out, it requires lifting the intake manifold, so that will require new gaskets. If you don't do it yourself, there's your $400 right there.

So, you see where I'm going with this. Not bagging on you for having a tight budget at all, I do too. The point is to keep the thing properly maintained and put off the "go fast" stuff until you're in better position to do so.
