If I remember correctly there are joint (GM/Ford) 9 and 10-speeds in the works. The 9-speed is to be initially used in FWD applications like cars, CUV's, and crossovers, while the 10-speed is initially for RWD cars, SUV's, and trucks.

GM and Ford are combining monies and engineers to develop a 10 speed automatic transmission. Suppose to be out in 2015-2016 timeframe. It is rumor that each put in a billion dollars to do the development and testing. It will finally put the domestic auto makers equal to the EU automakers!
