What kind of tape? Was it painters tape, electrical tape, masking tape, duct tape? Different tapes have different adhesives. Like painters tape, fairly easy to remove, duct tape good luck

Oh good lord. I suspect it looks worse than it really is.

Start with the weakest stuff possible and work your way up. Personally, I would start with Goo Gone and a lot of clean microfibers. The Goo Gone Spray Gel took all the adhesive residue off from my old cracked and dry vinyl stripes and they were a real mess. They have an automotive grade one that is safer for paints. Do NOT use anything like a Magic Eraser. It will scratch your paint very bad.

Once you get the adhesive off you can compound and polish that area if needed.

I have never tried that but I do know that 3M makes some absolutely amazing stuff.

If I had to guess, his rear window was broken and he covered the opening with some duct tape till he could get the window replaced.

Let the goo gone or wd40 do the work to not scratch the paint all up , means lots of time to let the goo gone eat the glue before you wipe it off

Yep. Once the sun starts shining on that tape it can do some weird shit to the clear and/or base coat. My old side stripes were badly cracked. The UV light that shined through the cracks left a copy of the cracked pattern in the paint itself. It was totally smooth to the touch but shadowed right into the paint. Now i have to keep vinyls stripes on the car until I get it resprayed.

First pic is before I removed the nasty stripes the previous owner left on. Second pic is after removal, but before clay bar, and compound. The orange vinyl was actually originally red but was badly faded in that area. The shadowing was covered with matte black side stripes of similar pattern.

Wow that looks like duct tape or that super sticky clear tape.

Start with a wash, see what you can do with that and clay after. Im sure you will need an adhesive remover.

I wouldnt be surprised if that did some funky stuff to the clear coat
