More Random Speculation!
OK, big news today in regards to the production date of the "HP model" Camaro!
Now, there has been some controversy among enthusiasts about whether the Z/28 or the SS should have been the high HP version, but it's kind of been a given (whether you like it or not) that since the current V8 model is an SS, that the high HP version would be a Z/28. Or is it a given? I found these quotes by fbodfather to be very interesting in regards to this Model's nameplate: Quote:
Quote:
This last quote sure as heck sounds to me like the Z/28 we've all been following so closely will not be called a Z/28. It sounds to me like they are going to respect traditions and come up with a different nameplate since this beast that they are building (in more ways than one) is a whole new animal. Does anyone else agree with this assessment? If so, any guesses as to what this name may be? You heard it here first! |

That would be the most logical, but I believe SLP owns that nameplate.

I read Fbod's comments as well, I agree with the "non-Z28 HP model" theory but have no idea what it would be called. Maybe something completely fresh or something loaned from another GM/Chevrolet model.
Not sure what to think now, 1 Jan 2012 production date? doesn't that seem a little too far into the Camaro MY12 to start production? I mean, MY13 should start in April... Thats as pretty much direct of a response as I have seen from Fbod... Still not feeling the 1 Jan 2012 production date, that means the 2012 "Z-HP" will start production the same time as the MY13 Cobra. |

It will be Z28. ZL1 is not well known like Z28. I seriously doubt it will be anything else.

I'm not biting. I'm not questioning 'Father - it just doesn't add up. He would certainly know better than me though.

Maybe this is another special edition, and not the Z?

It certainly could be; I just don't know that I thought GM would kick out another model before Z28. It'd be nice to match the competition, car for car, but I also don't really think that's totally necessary if we just have a few cars with the performance do it. I wouldn't think something like a Boss-type car would arrive before Z28, but I don't work for GM, so...

If ford didn't come out with the Boss I would have been certain it would be a Z28. But maybe the Z28 will return to it's roots as a lighter track oriented car. The "HP edition" could be something else.
