The answer is no for two reasons. First it makes no sense to finalize a Gen6 until the new Mustang is out and fully evaluated by the public and trade rags. Second, GM needs to get a little payback on the facelift; like one more model year. Everything points to a 2016 Gen6.

Another very important point is GM needs to get a little mileage out of the 2014 Z/28. This will be the CAMARO highlight until the 2016 MY.

I don't see them waiting until 2015 because that would be only 6 months from reveal to release if it's a 2016 model year.

If they reveal it this time next year, it would be a good 15 months before release. Like I said the Z/28 will be the next thunder they have no incentive to detract attention from the Gen5 especially after seeing the egg laid by the new Mustang.

I think they should release it without warning like Beyonce did with her new album!!! Just 'BOOM' there it is on a dealer lot, same day in a magazine....that would really mess people up!! especially if its more a revolution than evolution. Yes, that would be freaking cool.

It would be cool if we could get a look at it while we can still order the 5th gen. My plan is to buy a 2015 as I love this body style and to have the last year all the better, but would also be bummed if I see and love the 6 th gen.

You've got nothing to worry about in this regard. I guarantee you that at the time when you (and the rest of us) finally do see the 6th gen, it will still be possible for you to order a 5th gen. There's typically a window of at least 6 months when the new car has been revealed but they're still building the old car.

When you see camouflaged cars in the spy photos of all the magazines, start the 18 month clock to production. As we haven't seen a photo yet of IV running around you are at the very least a summer of 2015 SORP.
Based on GM's recent history you will not see anything outside of the 1 year window. That would mean the soonest would be LA in November? Then Detroit (January 2015, Chicago (February 2015) or New York (April 2015). Look at the Corvette. How long before production was it released at an auto show? How long prior did you start to get performance specs? It's always a balance between giving out information that would make you think about buying a competitor but also not make you wait from buying the current car.

It would be nice to see a concept at NAIAS to gauge public reaction and steal some of the Mustang's thunder. The 5th gen concept did come out almost 3 years before production started.

Chevy needs to sell as many "squinty eyed fronts-Acura Integra tails" as it can before the Transformers 4 model is even revealed, let alone produced, shipped, and sold. You take off the Froufrou from the Transformers 4 and you see Camaro 6. The current squinty eyed front is really a transitional model to the better looking ultimate goal of 2016. Just like the cheese-slicer-attacked back end of the immediate previous Mustang. The new 2015 Mustang has a more coherent curved back end and is the end goal of the transitional "sliced corners" model. Consider the 2016 Camaro as hiding in plain sight. Why do you think they have been releasing so many trailers of the Camaro in the movie? Do you really think GM will NOT have a Transformers 4 replica when they had NO shame producing such a full size toy before? In order to sell the replica as it did before, the basic car needs to be VERY SIMILAR TO THE MOVIE CAR. This is HUGE advertising for Chevy...and the aftermarket that gets generated.
